El jardín infantil Bambú está ubicado en la comuna de Las Condes, en la precordillera de Santiago de Chile. Unas de las primeras consideraciones a resolver fue que el esta- blecimiento no vulnerara a los vecinos y que el entorno y las edificaciones vecinas no desconcentraran a los niños de sus juegos y estudios. Para esto, se optó por excavar el terreno, tomando la horizontal más baja de este, de manera que el edificio quedara parcialmente soterrado, aislado de las edificaciones contiguas y abierto al paisaje lejano compuesto por los cerros, la cordillera y el cielo. El edificio se proyectó hacia los bordes del terreno, dejando el centro libre como patio de juegos y situando las salas de clases en torno a patios interiores que se articulan frente a dos corredores que enmarcan el gran vacío central.
The Bambú Preschool is located in the Las Condes district, at the foothills of Santiago de Chile. One of the first con- siderations to be addressed was that the establishment should not affect the neighbors and that the surroundings and neighboring buildings should not distract the children from their games and studies. To achieve this, the land was excavated, taking the lowest horizontal part of the site, so that the building would be partially buried, isolated from the neighboring buildings, and open to the distant landscape of the hills, the mountain range, and the sky. The building was built towards the edges of the site, leaving the center free as a playground and situating the classrooms around the interior courtyards that are articulat- ed in front of two corridors that frame the large central void.
El proyecto propone un recorrido a través de un pórtico compuesto por varios volúmenes claramente diferenciados en sus tipologías: uno cilíndrico, otro cuadrado y rectángulos que, juntos con las diagonales, conforman un conjunto de formas básicas fácilmente reconocibles por los niños. The project proposes a journey through a portico composed of several volumes clearly differentiated in their typologies: a cylindrical one, a square one, and rectangles that, together with the diagonals, form a set of basic shapes easily recognizable by children.
