The fachwerk construction system excelled in southern Chile due to the development attained by the carpenters in this technique, who used it as a cultural manifestation, expressing their own way to be in the territory. At present, this construction system is discontinued, devalued, and at risk of imminent disappearance. The possible loss of this heritage makes it necessary to create proposals that will allow its preservation. In this sense, the project provides an understanding of the assembly method from a collection of pieces and components to understand the artisan’s “doing”. The act of collecting provides the inputs to understand the fachwerk system's identity characteristics, the new possibilities that arise from the abstraction of elements and logic, with exemplary constructive and structural properties. Through the use of this system's own characteristics, such as the structure's ability to be assembled and disassembled, to separate pieces, to incorporate pieces, to dissociate com- ponents, and to rearrange them, the value of each piece is revealed. This particularity makes it possible to carry out a con- structive archaeological process (analysis of parts and components) as a dissection of the architectural heritage developed in the south of the country. From this research, the aim is to understand the structures in order to subse- quently select elements or ideas with attractive features and reproduce them in new architecture. Subsequently, a territorial strategy was deployed throughout the Chiloé Archipelago, where a prototype was created, a process that allows the building to be a tool to learn carpentry, which, through its construction, can teach and transmit knowledge between older artisans and apprentices. The Chonchi Community Theater project was developed with this logic. /
El sistema constructivo fachwerk destacó en el sur de Chile por el desarrollo alcanzado por los carpinteros en esta técnica, quienes la utilizaron como manifestación de su cultura, expresando una forma propia de ser y de estar en el territorio. En la actualidad, este sistema constructivo se encuentra descontinuado, desvalorizado y en riesgo de una inminente desaparición. La posible pérdida de este pa- trimonio hace necesario generar propuestas que permitan su conservación. En este sentido, el proyecto permite la comprensión del método de armado desde una recolección de piezas y componentes para entender el “hacer” del artesano. El acto de recolectar da los insumos para comprender, desde las características identitarias del sistema fachwerk, las nuevas posibilidades que surgen al abstraer elementos y lógicas, con propiedades constructivas y estructurales ejemplares. A través de la utilización estas características propias del sistema, como la capacidad de la estructura de ser armada y desarmada, separar e incorporar piezas, disociar compo- nentes y reordenarlos, se vislumbra el valor de cada pieza. Esta particularidad posibilita realizar un proceso arqueo- lógico constructivo (análisis de piezas y componentes) como una disección del patrimonio arquitectónico desarrollado en el sur del país. A partir de esta indagación se pretende entender las estructuras para, posteriormente, seleccionar elementos o ideas de rasgos atrayentes y recuperarlas en nueva arquitectura. Posteriormente se optó por una estrategia territorial desplegada a lo largo del Archipiélago de Chiloé, donde se creó un prototipo, proceso que permite que el edificio sea una herramienta de aprendizaje de la carpintería de armar, el cual, mediante su construcción, es capaz de enseñar y transmitir el conocimiento entre maestros mayores y aprendices. Con esta lógica se desarrolló el proyecto del Teatro Comunal de Chonchi. /
