ientras en nuestro país se escribe una nueva constitución, hemos querido ser parte del proceso, acercándonos a él, mediante el contenido de este número, que incorpora la interculturalidad, eso sí, relacionada inexorablemente al territorio, la geografía y el patri- monio en las visiones de Gastón Soublette y Germán del Sol. permitido. Reconocernos diversos es necesario y contribuye a una convivencia nacional inclusiva y tolerante. Su expresión en el arte y en la arquitectura es manifiesta y se instala en plural, en el nombre mismo de nuestro Ministerio de las Artes, las Culturas y el Patrimonio. Hace más de diez años, dieciséis Iglesias de Chiloé fueron consignadas como Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. Junto a la Subsecretaría de Patrimonio, destacamos el valor arquitectónico y cultural de estas construcciones en madera, que la escuela de la carpintería chilota nos ha regalado. La fusión entre las culturas europeas e indígenas produjeron estas extraordinarias construcciones que tenemos que preservar y proteger como valor excepcional universal, así calificadas por la declaratoria. En la misma dirección entrevistamos a Domingo Arancibia, joven arquitecto entregado a su proyecto Ruta País, relacionando el trabajo de los artesanos con los arquitectos, poniendo el énfasis en destacar la visibilidad que las técnicas ancestrales requieren para mejorar la calidad de vida de sus autores y sus pueblos. La arquitectura de la modernidad en Uruguay, se cierra en este número con un capítulo dedicado a la maestría del diseño en ladrillo en la obra de Eladio Dieste. Nuevamente un ma- terial vernáculo como lo es el ladrillo, forma parte de un trabajo que es parte importante de la arquitectura uruguaya reconocida internacionalmente. Retomar lo simple y originario pareciera encaminarnos a tiempos en los que lo propio adquiere valor, posibilitando un quehacer arquitectónico más sostenible y enfocado en materialidades y recursos cercanos a nuestra propia idiosincrasia latinoamericana, pese a la evidente globaliza- ción que nos influye y nos rodea. Poco a poco vamos dejando atrás la pandemia y sus consecuencias devastadoras, volvemos a reunirnos y a relacionarnos presencialmente, alejando el temor y la distancia para empezar de nuevo a construir el patrimonio del futuro.

While a new constitution is being written in our coun- try, we wanted to be part of the process, approaching it, through the content of this issue that incorporates the plurinationality, that is, inexorably related to the territory, geography, and heritage in the visions of Gaston Soublette and German del Sol. It is a fact that we are pluricultural not only because we integrate and enrich ourselves among people of different origins and cultures, but also because the diversity of our territory has allowed it. Recognizing our diversity is necessary and contributes to an inclusive and tolerant national coexistence. Its expression in art and architecture is manifested and is installed in the plural, in the very name of our Ministry of Arts, Cultures, and Heritage. More than ten years ago, a group of sixteen churches in Chiloé were designated as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Along with the Undersecretary of Heritage, we highlight the architectural and cultural value of these wooden structures that the Chiloé school of carpentry has given us. The fusion between European and indigenous cultures produced these extraordinary wooden structures, which we have to preserve and protect as an exceptional universal value, thus qualified by the declaration. In the same spirit, we interviewed Domingo Aran- cibia, a young architect dedicated to his Ruta País
project, relating the work of artisans with architects, emphasizing the visibility that ancestral techniques require to improve the quality of life of their authors and their people. The modern architecture of Uruguay closes this issue with a chapter dedicated to the mastery of brick design in the work of Eladio Dieste. Once again, a vernacular material such as brick is part of a work that is an important part of Uruguayan architecture recognized internationally. Taking back what is simple and original seems to lead us to times in which what is our own acquires value, making a more sustainable architectural work focused on materialities and resources close to our own Latin American idiosyncrasy possible, despite the evident globalization that influences and surrounds us. Little by little, we are leaving behind the pandemic and its devastating consequences, we are once again meeting and relating to each other in person, leaving behind fear and distance to start building the heritage of the future.
