La biblioteca de Constitución está construida completa- mente en madera con una estructura prefabricada hecha de pino laminado. Para crear un ritmo en el espacio interior y hacer las cargas y el proceso de construcción compren- sibles, Irarrázaval mantuvo las vigas de la madera y los pilares visibles. El edificio está elevado 1,6 metros sobre el nivel de la calle, para mirar los árboles de la plaza que enfrenta. Una de las características de esta construcción es su generosidad hacia el espacio público, con tres grandes vitrinas donde se exponen los nuevos libros con bancos y baldaquinos que ofrecen refugio al paseante. “Creo que todo proyecto, y en especial un edificio público, debe generar condiciones de habitar agradables. El aportar al bienestar de la gente genera apego y eso hace que los usuarios cuiden y quieran al edificio”. El “cuidado” es el tercer principio que rige la obra de Irarrázaval, quien postula que la arquitectura debe generar las mejores condiciones tanto físicas como espirituales para la vida. En cada encargo, este arquitecto pone un fuerte énfasis en lograr espacios donde la luz, la temperatura, la acústica y la materialidad converjan para lograr el mayor bienestar posible para quien habita.
The library in Constitución is built entirely of wood with a prefabricated structure made of laminated pine. To create an interior space rhythm and make the loads and construction process understandable, Irarrázaval kept the wood beams and pillars visible. The building is elevated 1.6 meters above street level to look out over the trees in the plaza that it faces. One of the construction's features is its generosity towards the public space with three large display cases where new books are exhibited and with benches and canopies that offer shelter for the passerby. "I believe that every project, and especially a public building, should create pleasant living conditions. Contributing to people's wellbeing creates attachment, and that makes users care for and love the building”. “Care" is the third principle that governs Irarrázaval's work, which states that architecture should create the best physical and spiritual conditions for life. In each commission, this architect places a strong emphasis on achieving spaces where light, temperature, acoustics, and materiality converge to achieve the greatest possible well-being for those who inhabit them.
