In your book, you state that the world is in crisis, that humanity is sick with an ailment created by the excess of industrial society's undertakings, and that the average man is facing an ever-increasing psychological impoverishment. What is the cause of this psychological impoverishment? What is the cause of this psychological impoverishment? The average man hands over all his skills to specialists, to intermediaries, and he becomes a mere consumer, a passive user, and a person who knows nothing, who knows how to do nothing, and who depends on the knowledge of others. This renders the majority of humanity impotent, living a life of nothing. Industrial undertakings create a monstrous form of a human city where people live in desolate housing complexes, which dispense with aesthetics, and in which only utility remains. This psychological impoverishment distances man from reflection and meaning. What for our ancestors were meaning and the notion of transcendence has been replaced by performance, unlimited growth, and efficiency. There is no need for aesthetics, no need to protect heritage, because the past does not matter, and the only thing that matters is the future.
Where do you believe is the origin of this crisis? The conclusion of all this is that the mega-crisis is caused by a human subtype that is psychologically sick and has the malignant germ of a production society. This began in the 5th century BC when farmers discovered that Mesopotamia was a steppe with fertile land and proceeded to channel the Tigris and Euphrates rivers to irrigate the southern part of the valley. The Sumerians were the first occidental culture, a production society with an agricultural technique that no one else had, and they became the world’s example at that time. From there came Egypt, the Babylonian culture... and that has not changed so far. Possibly the Sumerians did not need so much wealth, but a production society has to produce: "sense" becomes "urgency". The economic-technological construct is more important than man himself. The capital installed and the work that has been invested is so gigantic that it cannot be turned back, and this will continue until another more powerful people come and dominate us. This happened 9,000 years ago and since then we have lived in permanent war. Civilization has reached this point with a lot of blood. And this is basically the same as 9,000 years ago but with technology, with science, with democracy, but it is the same casserole and it has the evil germ of a production society. How is this human type, the child of a production society? He is an atheist who may even have a religion but who acts as if God does not exist. He is a person who does not reflect, who calculates, for whom the meaning of life is the creation of wealth, and for whom everything is based on performance and efficiency. Wherever this man goes, whatever his convictions or political inclinations, the result of his actions will be the same. There have been both great capitalist and socialist powers, and their differences do not matter, but that they are both centered on unbridled growth, both are the consequence of this type of man.
