CASO 1 | CASE 1 Explora Atacama

«To respect a culture is to continue caring for what it has cared for throughout its history.»

When I arrived at the oasis of San Pedro de Atacama looking for a place for the Explora Hotel, I toured the highlands trying to learn a little about the Atacameño people's way of life and their landscape, that is, the way they inhabited the territory. It is known from the letters of the first Spaniards who arrived there, that the Atacameños lived in mud houses with two or three floors covered with wood and straw, in farms forming ayllus or neighborhoods scattered throughout the oasis. The colonial town of San Pedro, on the other hand, reflects the Spanish tradition of houses with continuous facades and streets.
