Cuando surgió la opción de comprar las termas a la familia de los Ríos seguimos la misma política: entregárselas al consejo para que las cuidara, mantuviera y recibiera el producto del ingreso de las visitas. Y que los huéspedes del Explora tuvieran el ingreso libre. Para proyectar las Termas de Puritama fui al lugar con la sola idea de mejorar lo que ya existía. En un solo día trazamos in situ con los ingenieros de la constructora Salfa las pasarelas de madera levantadas sobre los caminos existentes que destruían el suelo, los pastos y las tolas. Después mandamos a un topógrafo para que hiciera el levantamiento de lo trazado, con el que hicimos los planos del proyecto. Limpiamos la basura acumulada por años, agrandamos los pozones, restauramos dos callankas o casas incásicas en ruinas, construimos baños y camarines de hormigón, y pasarelas de madera para que la gente no pisara el suelo, y las tolas y colas de zorro pudieran crecer con el riego por goteo escondido debajo y alimentado por el agua de la vertiente. Así la vegetación y el lugar alcanzaron un esplendor que nunca tuvieron antes. When the option to buy the hot springs from the Los Ríos family came up, we followed the same policy: we gave them to the Council to take care of and maintain them, and to receive the income from visitors. And that Explora's guests would have free access to them. To design the Puritama Hot Springs, I went to the site with the sole idea of improving what already existed. In a single day, we traced the wooden footbridges in situ with the engineers from Salfa construction company over the existing roads that were destroying the soil, the pastures, and the tolas. Then we sent a topographer to do the layout survey, with whom we drew up the project plans. We cleaned up the garbage that had accumulated for years, enlarged the wells, restored two callankas or Inca houses in ruins, built concrete bathrooms and dressing rooms, and wooden walkways so that people would not step on the ground, and the tolas and foxtails could grow with drip irrigation hidden underneath and fed by spring water. Thus the vegetation and the site achieved a splendor they never had before.
