have to live with that. This has been the most complicated thing for the government", he summarizes. In February of this year, the bidding process for 20,000 houses was announced, "which we hope will become effective this month, at least the first stage. We are building four houses in Viña, we have others in Villa Alemana and we are going day by day, trying to coordinate the families' demands. The Serviu of Valparaíso held a fair in Quilpué, where there were three models of industrialized houses for people to choose from. President Boric attended and saw the availability of the three industri- alized houses that were present”. The typologies available for the post-fire period are the same as those included in the Emergency Housing Plan. They are DS49 projects, which have a 100% subsidy, and also DS10, for rural housing. There are one-story or two-story houses and, since they are certified, they are quickly approved. These are the ones that could be built in Viña del Mar. “All the houses are designed for expansion," he continues. "The base house is 51 m2 and is designed for an additional room, reaching 61 m2. It is made for a family with several children or living with an elderly person because the bathroom is on the first floor and the bedrooms are on the second floor. The extension can be on the first or second floor. This is in the plans and there are also subsidies for expansion, but it will still be DIY construction”. The ideal condition for this type of housing is that the land is more or less flat; E2E builds the foundations and installs them on top of it. They are definitive houses and have a benefit which is the use of wood. “We are very involved in the Emergency Housing Plan, we want it to work, we want everyone to do well, to achieve the goal", says Felipe Montes, concluding this interview. "Several things could be improved, but we have to work from our own scope of action. The good thing is that all of us who work at E2E are well-motivated; we all know that we are building houses that will be inhabited by families. The workers know that the house they are building will be inhabited by a little girl, such as their daughter, and that the house must have good thermal and acoustic insulation and be high quality”. !

ogies and systems, to the Revolution mode, which implies actively pushing for the massive and persistent incorporation of Industrialization criteria. We have had many experiences with excellent results, applying the early integration method with architects, spatial designers, suppliers, builders, and clients. In addition, we have also incorporated and promoted the acceleration of industrialized systems and products, especially in precast concrete and wood construction systems, both modular based on lattice panels, and CLT and GLT (laminated). That is why Archiplan is part of the Industrialized Construction Council, CCI, in which Pabla Ortúzar is its Vice President. Our penetration in the mining industry - an industry that, due to its locations in areas of extreme climatic and altitude difficulties, demands highly industrialized solutions - has brought us into contact with mining companies, engineering offices, and specialized suppliers, such as Colla- huasi, Flúor, and Tecnofast, to cite a few examples. These collaborations have reinforced our knowledge and appreciation for their systems and their application in most of the projects we undertake. We have been inspired and enriched by the lessons learned at AOA´s Technological Missions, especially in Northern European and Scandi- navian countries with their advancements in high industrialization. We have also shared knowledge and experience with colleagues in projects such as the Chile Expo Milan pavilion by Undurraga Devés or the CMPC Corporate Building by Izquierdo Lehmann, both for their design and advanced industrialization. These examples dispel fears that high industrialization imposes limits on creativity, but rather enhances it. We architects have always embraced advances in technology and new materials for our work; "provoking" and pushing them is also part of our motivation and professional obligation. Le Corbusier's famous quote in his 1933 Athens Charter is still fully valid today: “It is imperative that architecture, instead of resorting almost exclusively to an anemic craft, should also make use of the immense resources offered by industrial technology”. Industrialization and Housing Emergency It is undoubtedly a huge step forward that the State is promoting and certifying Industrialized Construction for the Housing Emergency Plan. This will increase the ability to build more housing alternatives, with better quality standards, faster production and lower carbon footprint; reduction of environmental and noise pollution, and with less debris, which is essential to coexisting in already established neighborhoods and communities.

IGNACIO HERNÁNDEZ& PABLA ORTÚZAR DRIVING ADVANCED INDUSTRIALIZATION

By: Ignacio Hernández + Pabla Ortúzar

“We have always been deeply related and involved with many of our projects in their construction, which is why we have visualized and experienced the progressive degree of difficulties suffered by the construction industry and the obsolescence of traditional methods", says Ignacio Hernández, founder and president of Archiplan S.A., and Pabla Ortúzar, associate architect. Architects Jaime Ignacio Hernandez and Raimundo Onetto founded the company in 1992 in Santiago de Chile. Since its inception and in an incremental fashion, they have developed many urban development projects (master plans), and residential (additions and second floors) for first and second homes, services, commerce, and mining. In 2000, they opened an office in Marbella, Spain, in 2001 in Miami, USA and in 2014 in Lima, Peru. Ignacio Hernández and Pabla Ortúzar wrote this testimony about housing industrialization in our country and shared their Renca and Lo Espejo experiences, a pioneer tender assigned by the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (MINVU). Experiences and Inspirations We believe that we must move on from the Evolution mode, that is, the gradual and progressive adoption of advanced industrialization methodol-
