-Sustainability: low environmental impact, silent, lightweight, with organic materials and zero waste. -Ease of transportation and assembly to build in remote locations. In terms of design, although the construction system favors openings at the ends of the building over those on its length, in this case, different geometry frames were alternated to achieve a sequence of large skylights that create a volumetric rhythm, alternate opacity, and transparency, and vertically frame the landscape and visually connect with the plaza. To the north, the building was left completely airtight to protect it from rain and to isolate it from the road. A dark metal cladding was used on the exterior to bring it into line with the other pre-existing buildings and to contrast it with the warm wooden interior bathed in light from the sequence of windows. !

THESIS

A PAST THAT ASPIRES TO BECOME A VISION FOR THE FUTURE By: Pedro del Campo

“A path —indicated by the painters— opens up towards bestial mon- strosity; as if there were no other possibility of escaping from the architectural prison.” Georges Batalle The series "Carceri d'invenzione" by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, created between 1745 and 1750, connects concrete and imagination. It consists of fourteen etchings, without titles or numbering, framed in the capricci style, an Italian genre focused on architectural fantasies represented as ruins, without perspective or proportions. Piranesi's Carceri depicts prisons with complex and dystopian architectures, fusing fictitious elements such as disproportionate arches, endless bridges, fragile walkways, and torture tools. In 1761, Piranesi reissued his series, improving the use of light and shadow and adding new architectural elements. In this version, all the etchings are redesigned, numbered from I to XVI, and two new representations are incorporated. Capricci developed by Piranesi was considered an important precedent for Romanticism and its influence lasted into the 20th century, with reviews by figures such as Sergei Eisenstein and Aldous Huxley, who considered Carceri to be the origin of abstract art. Best Master's Thesis in Architecture, 2023, from Universidad Católica de Chile. Subsequently, "Sixteen is to one", a reinterpretation of Piranesi's prisons, was exhibited in an open exhibition and a seminar that inaugurated the 2024 academic year at that Faculty.

06_ TALCA CINERARY

This cinerary consists of a series of functional spaces for funeral cer- emonies, including a cremation room, a chapel, offices, and services, with a total surface area of approximately 350 m2. Its architectural design is based on an industrialized approach, where 80% of the entire building and 100% of its walls, foundations, and interior partitions are made of prefabricated reinforced concrete panels. These panels, which include pillars and internal chains to give them strength and rigidity, make it possible to adapt to the curved shapes that characterize the building's architecture. To meet the established completion deadlines, a pre-execution and pre-assembly process was implemented in workshops, where parts of the building were manufactured and assembled on a 1:1 scale before the final on-site installation. Tests and the manufacture of special moldings were carried out to efficiently shape the building, taking into account the disassembly, the numbering of parts, and the subsequent assembly sequence. In addition to the structural elements, the prefabricated panels were integrated with electrical and sanitary piping, as well as the insu- lation required by current regulations. This integrated prefabrication approach allowed us to reduce delivery times by 30%, contributing to the project's efficiency. The Talca Cinerary represents a significant milestone for our office, not only considering industrialization as the implementation of massive and serial projects but also for the realization of projects as unique units. Although the Talca Cinerary required a meticulous prior planning and determination process, the benefits obtained in terms of meeting dead- lines and anticipating unforeseen events during assembly were evident. !
