El Complejo Matta Sur se encuentra situado en la esquina de las calles Ñubles y Chiloé, en un solar rectangular de 2.485 m 2 que pertenece a la Municipalidad de Santiago. Históricamente el terreno albergaba el Liceo Metropolitano de Santiago, edificio construido en 1891 y aban- donado tras sufrir graves daños estructurales luego del terremoto de 2010. La municipalidad, buscando rescatar el edificio protegido bajo la categoría de inmueble de conservación his- tórica, propuso la recuperación del Liceo y la construcción de un edificio para albergar un Centro de Salud Familiar (CESFAM) en el mismo sitio. Consciente del reto de, por un lado intervenir en un edificio histórico, y por otro, diseñar uno nuevo que dialogara con el antiguo, Luis Vidal + Arquitectos desarrolló una propuesta donde la arquitectura patrimonial y la moderna se funden en un único lenguaje gracias a un cuidadoso estudio de alturas, relaciones en planta y sec- ción, ritmo y materiales.
The Matta Sur Complex is located on the cor- ner of Ñuble and Chiloé Streets, on a 2,485 m 2 rectangular lot that belongs to the Municipality of Santiago. Historically, the land housed the Liceo Metropolitano de Santiago, a building con- structed in 1891 and abandoned after suffering severe structural damage following the 2010 earthquake. The municipality, seeking to rescue the protected building under the category of a historic preservation building, proposed the recovery of the Liceo and the construction of a building to house a Family Health Center (CESFAM) on the same site. Aware of the challenge of, on the one hand, intervening in a historic building, and on the other hand, designing a new one that would dialogue with the old one, Luis Vidal + Architects developed a proposal where heritage and mod- ern architecture merge into a single language thanks to a careful study of heights, relation- ships in plan and section, rhythm and materials.
