La conexión entre los espacios interiores y el suelo natural en proyectos emplazados en fuertes pendiente es un tema constante en la búsqueda de la oficina Gubbins Polidura Arquitectos. Para este encargo, el cliente quería que todos los recintos de la casa estuvieran conectados con el terreno, que mantuvieran la privacidad, y que, además, consideraran tanto la vista al mar como hacia los cerros. La propuesta de los arquitectos consistió en crear una gran área pública donde se intercalan patios interiores, intermedios y exteriores, todo bajo una cubierta discontinua conformada por cinco vigas de hormigón negro que salvan 30 metros de luz. Estas vigas se apoyan en dos muros de 40 y 25 metros de largo, uno a cada lado del terreno, creando un espacio contenido, protegido del viento y con orientación oriente-poniente. Las vigas son el esqueleto siempre a la vista que constituye la quinta fachada y, a la vez, definen el carácter de cada espacio, creando una continuidad entre el interior y el exterior. The connection between the interior spaces and the natural soil in projects located on steep slopes is a constant theme in the quest for the Gubbins Polidura Arquitectos office. For this commission, the client wanted all the rooms of the house to be connected to the terrain, to maintain privacy, and to also consider both the view of the sea and the hills. The architects' proposal consisted of creating a large public area interspersed with interior, intermediate, and exterior patios, all under a discontinuous roof made up of five black concrete beams that span 30 meters. These beams are supported by two walls, 40 and 25 meters long, one on each side of the site, creating a contained space, protected from the wind and with an east-west orientation. The beams are the skeleton that is always in view, constituting the fifth facade and, at the same time, defining the character of each space, creating a continuity between the interior and the exterior.
