TRANSACCIONES: UN JUEGO DE SUMA CERO Taller de Investigación y Proyecto, MARQ UC, 2019 Profesores: Francisco Díaz, Ernesto Silva “Transacciones: un juego de suma cero”, es un taller que propo- ne entender la arquitectura como un balance de recursos. Ante la imposibilidad de que el diseño resuelva todos los problemas, y esquivando la fantasía de que a mayor cantidad de diseño el mundo será mejor, los proyectos deben definir qué beneficiar y qué afectar. En este taller no existe la posibilidad del win-win. A través de la idea de Bordieu de que el capital tiene dis- tintas formas – que no sólo hay capital económico sino tam- bién físico, cultural, social, simbólico u otros – propusimos el ejercicio de la suma cero: que para potenciar alguno de ellos hay que afectar a los demás. En base a la ecuación “A+B+C=0”, cada estudiante debía maximizar una forma de capital y, a la vez, minimizar alguna de las otras. Es decir, establecer una transacción entre distintos capitales. La moneda de cambio de esas transacciones son las ope- raciones arquitectónicas. A través de ellas se potenciaron o devaluaron las distintas formas de capital. Esas operaciones se realizaron sobre situaciones existentes, lugares o edificios que parecen deteriorados o bien no hayan explotado todo su potencial. El objetivo de este ejercicio es que los estudiantes logren un grado de conciencia en la toma de decisiones de proyecto, incluyendo aspectos que la arquitectura usualmente pasa por alto. Así, buscamos problematizar las lógicas de valor de la arquitectura y su contribución al agotamiento de los recursos.
TRANSACTIONS: A ZERO-SUM GAME Project & Research Workshop, MARQ UC, 2019 Professors: Francisco Díaz, Ernesto Silva "Transactions: a zero-sum game" is a workshop that seeks to understand architecture as a balance of resources. This is due to the impossibility that design will solve all problems and avoid the fantasy that the more we design the better the world will be. Therefore, projects must define what they will benefit from and what they will affect. In this workshop, there is no such thing as a win-win situation. Through Bordieu's idea that capital has different forms - that there is not only economic capital but also physical, cultural, social, symbolic, and other forms of capital - we proposed a zero-sum exercise: that to maximize one form of capital, one must affect the others. Based on the equation "A+B+C=0", each student had to maximize one form of capital and at the same time, minimize one of the others. In other words, to establish a transaction between different capitals The currency of these transactions is architectural opera- tions. Through them, different forms of capital were enhanced or devalued. These operations were carried out on existing situations, places, or buildings that appear deteriorated or that have not exploited their full potential. The objective of this exercise is for students to achieve a degree of awareness in project decision-making, including aspects that architecture usually overlooks. Thus, we seek to question the value logic of architecture and its contribution to the depletion of resources.
