Es muy fácil mirar a los “guetos verticales” y criticar su diseño, pero el diseño de estas torres no es más que la respuesta racional al sistema de incentivos en el cual se inscriben. Para mejorar la vivienda colectiva no necesitamos mejores arquitectos, necesitamos un mejor sistema de financiamiento. Si bien los arquitectos no somos culpables por la crisis de acceso a la vivienda, tampoco somos inocentes. Muchas veces criticamos el resul- tado sin proponer una alternativa viable. Pero en un mercado en crisis, eventualmente se generará un cam- bio. La pregunta es dónde estará el arquitecto cuando eso pase. Hoy pareciera que el problema es el neoliberalismo en sí, mi propues- ta en esta tesis es que usemos su propio poder para transformarlo. /

However, emerging technologies such as Uber or AirBNB open new paths for these types of organizations, so we could be on the verge of a change in the way collective housing is financed. It is very easy to look at the "vertical ghettos" and criticize their design, but the design of these towers is nothing more than a rational response to the incentive system in which they are embedded. To improve collective housing we do not need better architects, we need a better financing system. While architects are not to blame for the housing crisis, they are not innocent either. We often criticize the outcome without proposing a viable alternative. Hence, in a market crisis, change will eventually come. The question is where will architects be when that happens? Today it seems that the problem is neoliberalism itself; my proposal in this thesis is that we use its own power to transform it. /
