On the access level, where the use of glass predominates, the street, the central courtyard, and the Bicentennial Park are linked. The building is articulated around a central courtyard with a program on the upper levels that is built around this void.

76 proposals were submitted to the competition coordi- nated and managed by Constructo under the direction of Jeannette Plaut. The winning project was made up of the team of Cristián Fernández, Matías González, Guillermo Bustos, Constanza Hagemann, Nicolás Valdés and Claudio Araya, while second place was shared by the teams of José Manuel Figueroa and Jorge Pavic. There were also two honorable mentions for teams Rogelio Arancibia Palacios and Smiljan Radic. The jury was made up of world-renowned figures such as Glenn Lowry, director of MoMA and jury president; Frances Morris, director of the Tate Modern; international architects David Adjaye, David Chipperfield, Steven Holl, Toshiko Mori, and Charles Renfro; Chilean architects Luis Izquierdo, the National Architecture Prize winner, and Marcelo Sarovic; and Claudio Engel, president of the Engel Foundation, and Raúl Torrealba, mayor of the Vitacura Municipality. The winning team proposed a building that is articulated around a large void or central courtyard with art rooms that "float" on the upper level and are oriented in different directions. The arrangement of these volumes reflects the

landmark views that geographical- ly configure the Santiago valley: the Manquehue, San Cristóbal, and San Ramón hills. The building has three levels with unique material characteristics. On the first level, the pavements, ramps, and steps are made of acetylated wood, creating a surface that links the park with the facility and conveys a friendly and inclusive character. The intermediate level, the reception level, is where the street, the central court- yard, and the park are connected. In this space, the transparency provided by the glass is the protagonist. On the top floor, the art rooms are clad in white limestone masonry and in- corporate some translucent lighting elements that allow these rooms to be backlit. The museum is accessed through a wide ramp that leads to the "court- yard of the event", an open space to
