Winning project In the heart of the Brasil neighborhood, in the city of Santia- go, Chile, is the historic monument "Basílica del Salvador". In 1938, Pope Pius XI elevated the church to the rank of Minor Basílica and, in 1977, it was named a Historical Monument. It has been abandoned since 1985 and today it has become the image of the deterioration and scars left by earthquakes throughout our history. Based on the recognition of the different architectu- ral, artistic, urban, sociocultural, and historical values of the building, Rodríguez proposes the need to restore the building, preserve it and reunite its link with the citizens and its surroundings. To achieve this, he has focused his project on three pillars. The first is a recovery plan based on the structural con- solidation of the building and the subsequent restoration of its architectural and artistic components. The second aspect seeks to increase the heritage and establish a program that reactivates the ruin´s daily use within the public arena by incorporating an urban prome- nade that surrounds the monument. To achieve this, a new commercial program plan aims to give the church a new use that coexists with the Catholic religion. The rationale for the program´s designation is oriented primarily at expan- ding the universe of users who can use the building, thus aspiring to reactivate and open the heritage to the public arena, preserving its usefulness, its infrastructure, and ex- panding the financing options for its restoration. The plan contemplates maintaining the longitudinal circulation from north to south, materialized by the church´s three naves, intersected by two transversal elements, and culminated by an access plaza. The new layout includes a main entrance, museum, multipurpose space, chapel, audio-visual room, religious worship area, reception, a Basílica del Salvador museum, and a south access plaza. The third stage of the project consists of a financing strategy to fund the maintenance and future restoration of the Basílica del Salvador. To finance this work, a proposal is made to construct a new building on the land adjacent to the church, a site administered by the archdiocese and destined for a housing complex. The new building is presented as a commercial base with three interior cour- tyards that reflect the basilica´s transversal elements and a south access plaza, connected by a longitudinal gallery illuminated by three english courtyards and a series of
