La obra de Acuña se desvincula de movimientos, de teorías, y de estilos. Es difícil encontrar un sello que la caracterice: a veces deja los esqueletos fuera, en otras los techos son curvos, o la envolvente es un manto opaco pero traslúcido a la vez que oculta el programa. Su búsqueda tiene que ver con la renovación constante de su quehacer, con experimentar y responder las interrogantes propias de cada encargo con una investigación exhaustiva. Jamás se repite a sí mismo, ni mira a los otros. “No estoy suscrito a nada, intento no ver lo que hace el de al lado, trato de estar más callado no más… Me enfrento a los encargos siempre desde el lado de la construcción, tengo un lado muy ingenieril, me gusta mucho la ingeniería, casi más que la arquitectura. Siento una gran atracción por encontrar una tipología constructiva que dé respuesta a eso que el paisaje demanda. Para mí el paisaje y el arquetipo constructivo pesan mucho más que el programa, o que la forma”. Un ejemplo de esto es el proyecto La Invernada, ubicado a las afueras de Curicó al interior de una reserva natural de 600 hectáreas. Es un refugio – mirador de 54 metros cuadrados y seis metros de altura, distribuidos en tres
