― 5 ― Las fuerzas de convergencia que la estructura metropolitana otorgó al lugar fueron al mismo ritmo de los cambios, dando cada vez más significado a una plaza reconocida por todos. Incorporada y plasmada como frontera socio política al diferenciar sus habitantes aguas arriba o abajo de la misma, como lugar de convocatoria a las más variadas causas y celebraciones para cualquier victoria del país en el mundo (deportiva, de belleza u otras) hasta punto de llamada y arranque para las manifestaciones políticas o sociales de protesta que inician marcha vociferante por el eje principal de la ciudad hacia los enclaves de la autoridad asentados en el centro de la ciudad histórica. ― 6 ― El día 25 de octubre de 2019, una masa más que millonaria de personas, convocada y congregada en la plaza configuran un espacio urbano donde el suelo desaparece, los cuerpos edificados se desmaterializan y toda la fuerza del lugar queda contenida en esa masa viva que clama por infinitas reclamaciones, compartidas y personales, pero que el lugar de la plaza en ese momento es capaz de acoger, consagrando su vocación de ser el espacio metropolitano por excelencia que puede ofrecer la ciudad capital. ― 7 ― A partir de ese día, cada viernes por la tarde cuando la pandemia global lo permitía protestas y saqueos, manifestaciones y acciones de dominio, se alternan en el mismo lugar desmantelando y borrando paulatinamente su fisonomía, ya sea por la actuación vandálica o las reacciones de agencias gubernamentales. La plaza pierde su forma y su nombre. O más bien, sumerge en el lugar otro estrato de esos tantos pasados acumulados que a pesar de lo que ocurra dejan huellas perceptibles en el tiempo de una memoria y en el espacio de un lugar con vocación ciudadana irrenunciable. /
― 5 ― The convergence forces that the metropolitan structure gave to the location went at the same pace of the changes, giving more and more meaning to a plaza recognized by all. Incorporated and shaped as a socio-political border by differentiating its inhabitants upstream or downstream from it, as a convening place for the most varied causes and celebrations for any of the country´s world victories (sports, beauty, or others) up to the calling and starting point for political or social protest demonstrations that begin a vociferous march along the city´s main axis towards the enclaves of authority located in the historic city center. ― 6 ― On October 25, 2019, a mass of more than a million people, assembled and gathered in the plaza to configure an urban space where the ground disappears, the edified bodies are dematerialized and all the energy of the location is contained in that living mass that clamors for infinite demands, shared and personal, but at that moment the plaza´s location is able to accommodate, consecrating its calling to be the metropolitan space of excellence that the capital city can offer. ― 7 ― From that day on, every Friday afternoon when the worldwide pandemic allowed it, protests and looting, demonstrations and actions of domination, alternate in the same location, gradually dismantling and erasing its physiognomy, either by vandalism or government agency reactions. The plaza is losing its shape and name. Or rather, it submerges another layer in the location of those many accumulated pasts that despite what happens leave perceptible traces in the memory and location´s space with an inalienable civic calling. /
