CONCURSO COMPETITION PASEOS PEATONALES DEL CENTRO DE SANTIAGO PEDESTRIAN PROMENADES OF DOWNTOWN SANTIAGO La oficina PLAN Arquitectos es la autora del proyecto que revitalizará la principal cara del centro de Santiago: sus paseos peatonales. Las obras comienzan a mediados de año y abarcan una superficie de 16 mil m². PLAN Arquitectos is the author of the project that will revitalize the main face of downtown Santiago: its pedestrian promenades. The works will begin in the middle of the year and cover an area of sixteen thousand square meters.
A 40 años de la transformación de la emblemática calle Ahumada en paseo peatonal y a casi 25 de su última remodelación, se consideró necesario dar una nueva imagen a una de las caras más representativas del centro de Santiago: sus paseos peatonales, ejes de actividad para miles de habitantes que trabajan y circulan por sus calles. Con este fin, a través de la Corporación para el Desarrollo de Santiago, Cordesan, se llamó a concurso público de anteproyectos, el cual contó con el patrocinio de la AOA y el Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile. El llamado consideró intervenir los paseos Puente, Huérfanos, Estado y 21 de Mayo. La oficina ganadora fue PLAN Arquitectos. Los nuevos paseos peatonales tendrán internet gratuito, 29 pantallas interactivas con información diversa, 37 postes de iluminación de alta tecnología, mantendrá los quioscos existentes y permitirá ordenar la infraestructura actual. Los trabajos comenzarán a mediados de 2019, abarcando una superficie de 16 mil m² en 1 km de extensión, desde la Alameda hasta la Plaza de Armas. Presidido por el alcalde de Santiago, Felipe Alessandri, el jurado estuvo integrado por Emilio de la Cerda, subsecretario del Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y el Patrimonio; Marcela Pizzi, ex decana FAU; Miguel Saavedra, director de Obras I. Municipalidad de Santiago; Rodrigo Mekis, presidente Cordesan; Humberto Eliash, presidente Colegio de Arquitectos; Ignacio Hernández, presidente AOA; Juan Sabbagh, Premio Nacional de Arquitectura, junto a los arquitectos Juan Lund, Sebastián Gray y Sergio Baeriswyl, entre otros. La dirección del concurso estuvo a cargo de Yves Besançon, past president AOA y director de Revista AOA.
Forty years after the transformation of the renowned Ahumada Street into a pedestrian promenade and almost 25 years after its last remodeling, it was deemed necessary to renovate the image of one of the most representative faces of downtown Santiago: its pedestrian promenades, centers of activity for thousands of inhabitants who work in the city and walk its streets. To this end, the Corporation for the Development of Santiago, Cordesan, called for a public competition of preliminary projects, with the sponsorship of the AOA and the Association of Architects of Chile. The competition involved the intervention of the Puente, Huérfanos, Estado and 21 de Mayo promenades. The winning office was PLAN Arquitectos. The new pedestrian promenades will have free internet, 29 interactive information screens, 37 high-tech lighting posts, preserve the existing kiosks and allow the organization of the current infrastructure. The works will begin mid-2019, covering a one kilometer stretch from Alameda to Plaza de Armas and an area of 16 thousand square meters. Chaired by the mayor of Santiago Felipe Alessandri, the jury was composed of Emilio de la Cerda, undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage; Marcela Pizzi, former dean of the School of Architecture, University of Chile; Miguel Saavedra, director of construction, Municipality of Santiago; Rodrigo Mekis, president of Cordesan; Humberto Eliash, president of the Association of Architects; Ignacio Hernández, president of the AOA; Juan Sabbagh, National Architecture Prize, along with architects Juan Lund, Sebastián Gray and Sergio Baeriswyl, among others. The head of the competition was Yves Besançon, past president AOA and director of AOA Magazine.
