Situado en los márgenes inmediatos del casco histórico de Santiago al lado norte del río Mapocho, el barrio Recoleta se consolidó como parte integral de la ciudad recién a fines del siglo XIX, al canalizarse el torrente. La proximidad del barrio con el corazón de Santiago, sumada a nuevos viaductos de metal, impulsó a principios del siglo XX un dinámico polo de desarrollo urbano en el sector. Located on the immediate margins of the historic center of Santiago on the north side of the Mapocho River, the Recoleta neighborhood consolidated as an integral part of the city only at the end of the 19 th century, when the river was channeled. The proximity of the neighborhood to the heart of Santiago, in addition to the new metal bridges, boosted a dynamic urban development in the sector at the beginning of the 20 th century.
