Al definir una "imagen de lugar" para un colegio profesional, se piensa en un patio, en una plaza, en un lugar de encuentro entre profesionales con la misma vocación, un lugar donde compartir, enseñar y escucharse. Sin embargo, dadas las condiciones del terreno –rectangular– y la normativa del sector donde se emplazaría, era muy difícil obtener un lugar "adecuado", un espacio que tuviera importancia como vacío principal del proyecto; la rasante de 70° obligaba a situar el edificio en el centro del terreno, imposibilitando un lado más ancho y protagónico que el otro. El terreno, además, posee la cualidad particular de situarse entre dos calles, la Av. Santa María y la calle Fernando Manterola, al costado norte del río Mapocho.
By defining a "locus image" for a professional school, we think of a courtyard, a square, a meeting place for professionals with the same vocation, a place to share, teach and listen to each other. However, given the conditions of the site –rectangular– and the local regulations, it was very difficult to obtain an "adequate" place, a space that was important as the main void of the project. The regulation 70° restriction plane to ensure sunlight forced to place the building in the center of the plot, making impossible the definition of a wider and predominant side of the rectangle. The site also has the particular quality of being located between two streets, Avenida Santa María and Fernando Manterola Street, on the north side of the Mapocho River.
