GA Estudio
Formado el 2010 por los arquitectos de la UDD Tomás García de la Huerta y Xaviera Gleixner, GA Estudio hoy opera en Berlín, desde donde los socios aspiran a internacionalizar su trabajo. Sus obras -que se mueven entre lo experimental y lo concreto- se han exhibido no sólo en Chile, también en Francia, Italia, Inglaterra, Argentina, Alemania y Portugal. Formed in 2010 by UDD architects Tomás García de la Huerta and Xaviera Gleixner, GA Estudio today operates in Berlin, from where the partners aspire to spread their work. Their works - which range from the experimental to the concrete - have been exhibited not only in Chile, but also in France, Italy, England, Argentina, Germany and Portugal.
En lo profesional y en lo personal, mucho es lo que comparten Tomás García de la Huerta (38) y Xaviera Gleixner (35). Se conocieron en la Universidad del Desarrollo el año 2004, donde ambos se titularon de arquitectos. Él, el 2008, cuando su proyecto de título –sobre un cité del barrio Recoleta- se convirtió en el mejor de su generación en la UDD, fue elegido a nivel nacional en la XVI Bienal de Arquitectura de Santiago y al año siguiente se impuso el The World’s Best Graduation Projects otorgado por Archiprix Internacional. El 2009, fue Xaviera quien ganó el premio al mejor proyecto de título de la universidad, además de graduarse con distinción máxima. Con su título en la mano y alguna experiencia como estudiantes, decidieron tener su propia oficina y formaron GA Estudio. En paralelo, ambos fueron profesores en la Facultad de Arquitectura de su universidad hasta el año 2015. Ese año, Tomás fue becado por el Servicio Alemán de Intercambio Académico (DAAD) para un programa de dos años en Berlín, donde reside desde entonces con su socia y señora. Desde la activa metrópoli alemana, Tomás y Xaviera han enriquecido sus respectivas trayectorias. En el caso de Tomás, además de estudiar colaboró en el estudio Tomás Saraceno, mientras ella lo hizo en la oficina Aukett + Heese Architekten. GA Estudio tiene un tercer socio, el arquitecto y editor portugués José Miguel Pinto (31), a quien conocieron el 2013 durante una visita suya a Chile. José Miguel se hizo cargo de la oficina cuando ellos partieron a Berlín, y ya de vuelta en Portugal los tres se unieron para explorar posibilidades profesionales en tierras portuguesas, donde Pinto dirige la oficina ArtWorks. La arquitectura constituye el principal enfoque del equipo, aunque su mirada muchas veces trasciende para proponer otras posibilidades para otro tipo de intervenciones. Recientemente, en el marco de la organización del próximo Festival de Artes de las Azores, GA y ArtWorks ganaron el concurso de arquitectura Pabellón Walk & Talk 2019. Su proyecto, una estructura temporal, se exhibirá en la isla de Saö Miguel durante los días del evento, en julio.
Professionally and personally, much is shared by Tomás García de la Huerta (38) and Xaviera Gleixner (35). They met at Universidad del Desarrollo in 2004, where they both obtained their architecture degree. In 2008, Tomas’ degree project – involving a cité in the Recoleta neighborhood - became the best of his generation in the UDD and was selected at the national level in the XVI Biennial of Architecture of Santiago and the following year awarded first prize by Archiprix International at The World’s Best Graduation Projects. In 2009, Xaviera won the award for the best university degree project, in addition to graduating with maximum distinction. With their degree in hand and some experience as students, they decided to set up their own office and formed GA Estudio. In parallel, both were professors at the Faculty of Architecture of their university until 2015. That year, Tomás was awarded a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for a two-year program in Berlin, where he has resided ever since with his partner and wife. From the active German metropolis, Tomás and Xaviera have enriched their respective careers. In the case of Tomás, in addition to studying, he collaborated with the Tomás Saraceno studio, while Xaviera with the Aukett + Heese Architekten office. GA Estudio has a third partner, Portuguese architect and editor José Miguel Pinto (31), whom they met in 2013 during a visit to Chile. José Miguel took over the office when they left for Berlin, and back in Portugal the three of them came together to explore professional possibilities in Portuguese lands, where Pinto runs the ArtWorks office. Architecture is the main focus of the team, although their vision often transcends to propose other possibilities for other types of interventions. Recently, within the framework of the organization of the next Festival of Arts of the Azores, GA and ArtWorks won the 2019 Walk & Talk Pavilion architecture contest. Their project, a temporary structure, will be exhibited on the island of Saö Miguel during the days of the event, in July.
