- ¿Cómo es la manera de trabajar en Snøhetta y qué motivaciones inspiran su filosofía de trabajo? El inicio de un proyecto, ya sea que hayamos llegado a él por concurso o por encargo directo, parte con un enfoque interdisciplinario en el que las diferentes especialidades dentro de la oficina -arquitectura, paisajismo, diseño de interiores, de marcas, de muebles, etcétera-, colaboran en conjunto con el cliente para formular un lineamiento común y generar un concepto colaborativo. Cuando un cliente nos contacta directamente, este proceso se desarrolla a través de un workshop que dura todo un día y en el que nos dedicamos a entenderlo en profundidad. Si se trata de un concurso, este tipo de proceso se internaliza y lo que intentamos es lograr un acercamiento rápido. Pero siempre el comienzo se basa en un enfoque multidisciplinario para generar un concepto o una idea, se trata realmente de diseño basado en ideas. Este es el núcleo de donde surge todo el resto. Esta idea debe ser lo suficientemente sólida y flexible para que un proyecto en toda su complejidad pueda retroceder y avanzar hacia el concepto, es beneficiosa para el desarrollo del proyecto. Por ejemplo, cuando miras el edificio de la Ópera y Ballet Nacional en Oslo, detrás hay un concepto claramente socialdemócrata: ¿Cómo dar a todos en una ciudad la oportunidad de ir a la ópera? Entregándoles esta plataforma pública que les permite ir sin siquiera comprar un boleto. - Los distintos profesionales que trabajan en un proyecto, ¿forman parte del staff permanente de la oficina o depende de la escala del proyecto? Definitivamente depende del tamaño de la obra. Cada proyecto tiene un “marco” de tiempo distinto en su planificación, por lo que las diferentes disciplinas -desde ingeniería y mecánica, hasta medioambiente y sustentabilidad- se harán presentes en distintos momentos. Los expertos que trabajan con nosotros son esenciales para que un proyecto sea realizable e incluso creíble a nivel conceptual. - Can you tell us about the work style in Snøhetta and what motivations inspire your work philosophy? The initial steps of a project, whether it’s come to us by competition or direct commission, start with a truly multidisciplinary approach in which the different specialties within the office -architecture, landscaping, interior design, branding, furniture design, etc.-, collaborate with the client to formulate a common guideline and produce an integrated concept. When a client contacts us directly, this process is developed in a workshop that lasts a whole day in which we commit ourselves to a deep understanding. If it is a competition, this process is internalized, and we try to develop a quick approach. But the beginning is always based on a multidisciplinary vision to generate a concept or an idea, it really is design based on ideas. This is the core from which all the rest originates. This idea must be sufficiently solid and flexible -so that a project in all its complexity can go back and forth towards the concept-, and always beneficial for the development of the project. For example, when you look at the building of the National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, there is a clearly social-democratic concept: how to give everyone in a city the opportunity to go to the opera? Giving them this public platform allows them to go without buying a ticket. - Are the different professionals working on a project part of the permanent staff of the office or does this depend on the scale of the project? It definitely depends on the size of the work. Each project has a different time frame in its planning, so that the different disciplines -from engineering and mechanics to environment and sustainability- will be present at different times. The experts who work with us are essential for a project to be attainable and even credible at the conceptual level. Thanks to the fact that we have a wide range of expertise within the office itself, the consultancy can be internal, and if we need a larger team, it can be external and even international.
