CONCURSO COMPETITION PABELLÓN DE CHILE PARA EXPO DUBAI 2020 CHILE PAVILION FOR EXPO DUBAI 2020 La estructura reciclada de un galpón de madera marcará la impronta del pabellón chileno en la próxima exposición universal. Sus autores –los arquitectos Smiljan Radic, Cecilia Puga y Paula Velasco, equipo ganador del concurso público especialmente organizado– definen su proyecto "como un manifiesto de arquitectura contemporánea que representa una nueva voluntad nacional cuidadosa de su acervo cultural". The recycled structure of a wooden shed will mark the image of the Chilean pavilion at the next universal exhibition. Its authors –architects Smiljan Radic, Cecilia Puga and Paula Velasco, the winning team of the specially organized open competition– define their project "as a manifesto of contemporary architecture that represents a new national ideal careful of its cultural heritage". Se calcula que la primera exposición universal realizada en el mundo árabe será visitada por 25 millones de personas y que un 70% de ellas –17 millones y medio– serán extranjeras. Es decir, un Chile entero movilizándose hacia la sede de la feria, Dubai, Emiratos Árabes, entre octubre del 2020 y abril del año siguiente. Una mega vitrina para los países participantes y organizaciones presentes, entre ellos nuestro país, que en esta versión se mostrará al mundo desde un pabellón de 400 m² en un sitio de 1.111 m² ubicado en el llamado "Pétalo de la Sustentabilidad" de la feria, considerado un enclave privilegiado. Por encargo del comisionado general para la Expo Dubai 2020, Álvaro Saieh, y bajo las directrices de ProChile, se llamó a concurso nacional y público de ideas para la realización del pabellón chileno, al que se presentaron 24 oficinas de arquitectos. Conformaron el jurado Jorge O'Ryan, director de ProChile, y el comisionado Saieh, junto a un grupo de arquitectos encabezados por Yves Besançon, past president AOA y elegido entre sus integrantes como director del concurso; Ricardo Abuauad, Humberto Eliash (presidente del Colegio de Arquitectos), Luis Izquierdo (elegido por los concursantes), Felipe Assadi, Luis Corvalán, Cazú Zegers, Gabriela García, Francisca Pulido, Juan Sabbagh y Cristián Undurraga, estos dos últimos responsables de la arquitectura de los pabellones de Shanghái 2010 y Milán 2015, respectivamente. It is estimated that the first universal exhibition held in the Arab world will be visited by 25 million people, and that 70% of them –17 million and a half– will be foreigners. A mega showcase for the participating countries and organizations present, including our country, which in this version will be shown to the world in a 400 m² pavilion on a 1,111 m² site located in the so-called "Petal of Sustainability" of the fair, considered a privileged enclave. Dentro del marco de la feria Dubai 2020 se entiende que el proyecto del Pabellón País debe tener como objetivo principal agregar valor político a una estructura de arquitectura determinada. Pasar de una arquitectura formalista a una MEMORABLE. El pabellón debe hacer evidente en su proceso constructivo, materialidad y forma, los esfuerzos que desarrolla especialmente el Estado chileno en materia de sustentabilidad, promoviendo una imagen territorial enraizada profundamente en los problemas globales. El pabellón se plantea simplemente como una sombra extruida del sitio construible. Una marca primitiva sobre el suelo, tal y como lo han hecho por siglos las tribus nómades en este desierto hoy globalizado. Within the framework of the Dubai 2020 fair, it is understood that the Country Pavilion project must have as its main objective adding political value to a specific architectural structure. To move from a formalistic architecture to a MEMORABLE architecture. The pavilion must reveal in its constructive process, materiality and form, the efforts that the Chilean state especially develops in terms of sustainability, promoting a territorial image deeply rooted in global problems. The pavilion is simply posed as the extruded shadow of the buildable site. A primitive mark on the ground, as nomadic tribes have done for centuries in this presently globalized desert.
