Felipe Grallert
Por nacimiento –Punta Arenas– y por estudios –Universidad Austral–, desde sus inicios la carrera de este joven arquitecto (34) mantiene una fuerte ligazón con el sur de Chile. Desde Valdivia, donde vive hace tres años, combina la actividad académica con el ejercicio privado, y aunque su portafolio es variado en escalas y tipologías, su fuerte son las exploraciones en torno a la vivienda: el cómo habitar y la relación entre habitar y territorio.
His birth in Punta Arenas and his studies at Universidad Austral, have maintained, from its beginnings, a strong link between the career of this young architect (34) and the south of Chile. He combines academic activity with private practice in Valdivia, where he settled three years ago, and although his portfolio is varied in scales and typologies, his strength is housing research: how to inhabit, and the relationship between habitation and territory.
HABITACIONES I
"Lugar destinado a la vivienda"… "Cada uno de los espacios ubicados entre tabiques, destinados a dormir, comer"… "Servidumbre personal cuyo poseedor tiene la facultad de ocupar en casa"… Las distintas acepciones de la palabra 'habitación' inspiran a Grallert para formular proyectos de vivienda de diferente escala, contexto y uso. Cinco de ellos conforman Habitaciones I, la primera de una serie de publicaciones, en este caso enfocada a viviendas temporales. "Todos los proyectos han sido llamados Habitación, intentando construir un cuerpo común entre ellos", explica el arquitecto. Una colección a modo de repertorio de ideas y soluciones "a las se pueda recurrir en búsqueda de alternativas". "A place destined for dwelling"… "Each of the spaces located between partitions, intended to sleep, eat"… "Personal right whose holder has the power to occupy at a house"… The different meanings of the Spanish word habitación , inspire Grallert to formulate housing projects of different scale, context and use. Five of them make up Habitaciones I, the first of a series of publications, in this case focused on temporary housing. "All the projects have been called Habitación, trying to build with them a common body", explains the architect. A collection as a repertoire of ideas and solutions "that can be used in search of alternatives".

Desde antes de egresar de Arquitectura, Felipe Grallert ya resolvía encargos privados y colaboraba con oficinas sureñas. Alumno aventajado, el año 2011 obtuvo el premio al mejor proyecto de título con Escuela Granja, una propuesta ligada a la identidad rural en Antilhue, y de inmediato funda su propia oficina, con sedes en Santiago y Valdivia. También desde el principio se vincula a la docencia, sumando un nutrido currículum como profesor en diversas universidades y que hoy lo tiene como docente en la Universidad de San Sebastián en Puerto Montt. Considerado entre las siete promesas de la arquitectura joven chilena el año 2013 (Revista VD), destaca además su participación en importantes concursos, tales como la remodelación de la costanera de Valdivia y del Palacio Pereira (en este caso, asociado al arquitecto Albert Tidy y donde obtuvieron mención honrosa); YAP Constructo, Archiprix Chile e Internacional (entre los 25 mejores proyectos); el pabellón de Chile en la Expo Milán 2015 (segundo lugar, junto a Albert Tidy y Cristóbal Riffo); Nueva Plaza Calle Lateral Arauco (finalista, asociado a Plan Común) y, recientemente, el concurso para el nuevo edificio de la Faculta de Arquitectura y Artes de la Universidad Austral, en que obtuvo el tercer lugar. La relación con el paisaje, el territorio, la escala y la geometría se reflejan claramente en sus propuestas, y su tesis de Magíster en Arquitectura en la PUC (2015) abordó lo débil del patrimonio sureño. A través de su trabajo, sus investigaciones y exploraciones aspira a entender cómo la relación entre modos de vida, habitantes y paisaje construye un único patrón de arquitectura irrepetible, y evalúa la capacidad de incorporar este patrón en las políticas de erradicación habitacional del país. Estos intereses también se plasman en primer catálogo de vivienda social rural: Diez propuestas para el sur de Chile (Ediciones ARQ, 2017), que promovió y editó, y en su propia colección bautizada como Habitaciones.
Since before graduating from architecture, Felipe Grallert already worked in private commissions and collaborated with southern studios. A gifted student, in 2011 he won the award for the best graduation project with Escuela Granja, a proposal linked to rural identity in Antilhue, and immediately founded his own studio with offices in Santiago and Valdivia. Also, at the time, he began to teach, adding to date a rich curriculum as a professor at several universities. Today he holds a position at Universidad de San Sebastián in Puerto Montt. Considered among the seven promises of young Chilean architecture in 2013 (VD Magazine), his participation in important competitions is worth mentioning. Among others, the remodeling of the coastal promenade of Valdivia and the Pereira Palace (in this case, associated with architect Albert Tidy, where they obtained an honorable mention); YAP Constructo, Archiprix Chile and International (among the top 25 projects); the Chilean pavilion at Expo Milan 2015 (second place, with Albert Tidy and Cristóbal Riffo); Nueva Plaza Calle Lateral Arauco (finalist, associated with Plan Común) and, recently, the competition for the new building of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of Universidad Austral, where he obtained the third place. The relationship with the landscape, the territory, scale and geometry are clearly reflected in his proposals, and his master's thesis in Architecture at the Catholic University (2015) addressed the weakness of southern heritage. Through his work, his research and exploration, he aspires to understand how the relationship between lifestyles, inhabitants and landscape builds a unique pattern of unrepeatable architecture, and assesses the ability to incorporate this pattern into the national housing resettlement policy. These interests are also reflected in the first catalog of rural social housing: Diez propuestas para el sur de Chile (Ten proposals for southern Chile), Ediciones ARQ, 2017, which he promoted and edited, and in his own collection called Habitaciones.
