MADERA21-CORMA 2018 El tradicional concurso para estudiantes esta vez convocó a diseñar un edificio multiprograma en mediana altura construido en madera. On its latest version the traditional competition for students called for the design of a multiprogram, mid-rise wooden building. Organizado por Madera21, asociación de Corma, desde el año 2006 este concurso busca fomentar el uso de la madera en las áreas de la arquitectura, diseño, ingeniería, construcción e innovación y favorecer la transferencia de los conocimientos y tecnología necesarios para hacerlo. El concurso de arquitectura muestra un creciente interés y sostenida participación de estudiantes y profesores, y en su décimo tercera versión el jurado escogió el proyecto "Colectivo habitacional, la escuela y la cancha", desarrollado en la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad San Sebastián. El director del concurso, Tomás Villalón, destacó que "los tres proyectos premiados logran hacer una sana simbiosis entre las particularidades del espacio público y su emplazamiento y la expresión material". El jurado fue conformado por los arquitectos Mirene Elton, representante de la AOA, Martín Hurtado, Loreto Lyon, Jonás Retamal, Sebastián Irarrázaval, María Angélica Valente, Jorge Calderón, Alberto Teixido, Guillermo Hevia G., Juan Sabbagh, Verónica Arcos y Makarena Ceballos. Organized since 2006 by Madera21, an association belonging to Corma (Chilean Wood Corporation), the competition seeks to encourage the use of wood in the areas of architecture, design, engineering, construction and innovation and promote the necessary transfer of knowledge and technology. The architecture competition shows a growing interest and sustained participation of students and professors, and in its thirteenth version the jury chose the project "Collective housing, the school and the sports field", developed at the School of Architecture of Universidad San Sebastián. The competition director, Tomás Villalón, stressed that "the three awarded projects manage to establish a healthy symbiosis between the particularities of public space and its location and material expression". The jury was composed by architects Mirene Elton, representative of the AOA, Martín Hurtado, Loreto Lyon, Jonás Retamal, Sebastián Irarrázaval, María Angélica Valente, Jorge Calderón, Alberto Teixido, Guillermo Hevia G., Juan Sabbagh, Verónica Arcos and Makarena Ceballos.

El proyecto busca la referencia en el sector por sus siete niveles asemejando ser un muro habitable, los cuales incluyen: primer nivel de uso mixto con camarines, talleres y la unidad vecinal; segundo nivel de uso exclusivo para la escuelita y, finalmente, cinco niveles de vivienda. Para la vivienda se concibe una célula habitacional a través de la deconstrucción del concepto de hogar: se compone solo de los programas privados (dormitorios y baños), en tanto el comedor, estar y cocina se abren al uso colectivo. El muro habitable se define como un edificio de carácter social tanto en su programa como en la manera de habitar la torre.
The project seeks to become a reference in the neighborhood with its seven floors, which resemble a habitable wall and include a mixed use first level with changing rooms, workshops and the neighborhood association; a second level of exclusive use for the school and, finally, five levels of housing. For the housing, a unit cell is conceived through the deconstruction of the concept of home: it consists only of the private programs (bedrooms and bathrooms), while the dining room, living room and kitchen are open to collective use. The habitable wall is defined as a building of a social nature both in its program and in the way of inhabiting the tower.
