CONCURSO COMPETITION ANTEPROYECTOS EDIFICIO MUNICIPAL DE PROVIDENCIA PROVIDENCIA MUNICIPAL BUILDING CONCEPTUAL PROJECTS Organizado por el Colegio de Arquitectos en conjunto con la AOA y en alianza con la Municipalidad de Providencia, su objetivo fue definir plan maestro general del área de servicios municipales además de un nuevo edificio consistorial. Organized by the Association of Architects in combination with the AOA and in partnership with the Municipality of Providencia, its main purpose was to define a general master plan for the area of municipal services as well as a new city hall building. Lograr un nuevo edificio que reúna todos los servicios del municipio, hoy dispersos en 26 inmuebles distintos en un mismo lugar, fue el principal objetivo del llamado. El nuevo inmueble, de aproximadamente 12.500 m², se ubicará en el campus de la municipalidad, en el tradicional enclave de Avenida Pedro de Valdivia y Marchant Pereira, tras el Palacio Falabella. El jurado otorgó el primer lugar al equipo integrado por Tomás Villalón, Nicolás Norero y Leonardo Quintero, valorando el respeto de su propuesta por la escala del barrio, su elegancia y dignidad de edificio público para una comuna de 120 años. El jurado del certamen –en su mayoría arquitectos– estuvo compuesto por Evelyn Matthei, alcaldesa de Providencia y presidenta del jurado; Pilar Fernández, del Concejo Municipal; Pilar Urrejola y Juan Lund, del Colegio de Arquitectos; Germán Bannen, respetado arquitecto del municipio; Pablo Larraín y Juan Sabbagh, de la AOA; Cristóbal Molina, del Ministerio de la Cultura, las Artes y el Patrimonio, y Luis Izquierdo, representante elegido por los concursantes. El director del concurso fue Yves Besançon. The main objective of the tender was to design a new building to combine in one place all the services of the municipality, today scattered in 26 different venues. The new 12,500 sqm building will be located on the campus of the municipality, in the historical location of Pedro de Valdivia Avenue and Marchant Pereira, behind the Falabella Palace. The jury awarded the first place to the team composed of Tomás Villalón, Nicolás Norero and Leonardo Quintero, recognizing in their proposal the respect for the scale of the neighborhood, its elegance and dignity as a public building for a 120-year-old commune. The jury of the contest –mostly architects– was composed of: Evelyn Matthei, mayor of Providencia and president of the jury; Pilar Fernández, from the Municipal Council; Pilar Urrejola and Juan Lund, of the Association of Architects; Germán Bannen, respected architect of the municipality; Pablo Larraín and Juan Sabbagh, of the AOA; Cristóbal Molina, of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, and Luis Izquierdo, representative chosen by the contestants. Yves Besançon was the director of the competition.

Providencia se caracteriza por un sistema de parques y plazas que se cruzan con barrios residenciales de gran calidad arquitectónica y urbana. El suelo para alojar un edificio municipal debe entenderse como una posibilidad para participar de este sistema, dotando a su nuevo espacio público de un programa municipal que definirá el rol programático del espacio fundado.
Providencia is characterized by a system of parks and squares that intersect with residential neighborhoods of great architectural and urban quality. The site to house a municipal building should be understood as an opportunity to participate in this system, providing its new public space with a municipal program that will define the programmatic role of the founded space.
