ANTEPROYECTOS PARA LA ACADEMIA DE GUERRA DEL EJÉRCITO PRELIMINARY PROJECTS FOR THE WAR ACADEMY OF THE ARMY A 130 años de la creación de la emblemática Academia de Guerra del Ejército, se busca modernizar su infraestructura a la vez de reforzar su imagen institucional a nivel internacional. One-hundred and thirty years after the foundation of the famous War Academy of the Army, the aim is to modernize its infrastructure while reinforcing its institutional image at the international level. La actual imagen arquitectónica es la de un edificio heredado y concebido para un instituto forestal, que hace gala de un fino uso de la madera pero carece de impronta militar, como también del adecuado standard de instalaciones que el establecimiento requiere. A fin de modernizar el conjunto, se llamó a Concurso de Anteproyectos para el Campus Educativo de la Academia de Guerra del Ejército. El jurado encargado de evaluar las 11 propuestas recibidas estuvo integrado por autoridades del Ejército, encabezadas por el comandante en jefe general Humberto Oviedo; representantes de la municipalidad de La Reina, junto a los arquitectos y decanos de Arquitectura Marcela Pizzi (FAU de la Universidad de Chile), Mario Ubilla (FADEU PUC) y Pablo Allard (UDD), además de Juan Sabbagh, Premio Nacional 2002, Alberto Texido, presidente Colegio Arquitectos, Pablo Larrain, presidente de la AOA, y Luis Izquierdo, en representación de los concursantes. Se evaluaron 11 propuestas, de las cuales se entregaron dos primeros lugares –Elton_Léniz + Forma Colectiva y Jaime Bendersky + Giannini y Villarroel, respectivamente– y tres menciones honrosas: Albert Tidy Arquitectos, Sáez Joannon y Murtinho + Raby. The current architectural image is that of a building inherited and conceived for a forestry institute, which shows a fine use of wood but lacks military character, as well as the adequate standard for the facilities the establishment requires. To modernize the compound, a Preliminary Project Competition for the Educational Campus of the War Academy of the Army was called. The jury in charge of evaluating the 11 proposals received was made up of army authorities, led by commander in the chief General Humberto Oviedo; representatives of the municipality of La Reina, with the architects and deans of Architecture Marcela Pizzi (FAU, University of Chile), Mario Ubilla (FADEU, Catholic University) and Pablo Allard (UDD), in addition to Juan Sabbagh, 2002 National Architecture Prize, Alberto Texido, president of the Association of Architects, Pablo Larrain, president of the AOA, and Luis Izquierdo, in representation of the contestants. Eleven proposals were evaluated, of which two first places were awarded –Elton_Léniz + Forma Colectiva and Gabriel Bendersky + Giannini and Villarroel– and three honorable mentions: Albert Tidy Arquitectos, Sáez Joannon and Murtinho + Raby.

ELTON_LÉNIZ + FORMA COLECTIVA Arquitectos Architects: Mirene Elton, Mauricio Léniz, Rodrigo Fernández (Elton_Léniz); Francisco Cruz, Ignacio González (Forma Colectiva) Se propone un proyecto que transforme lo existente en un campus a través de tres operaciones: Vacío: que organiza las construcciones históricas existentes y el nuevo edificio de aulas, transformándose en el Patio de Formación. Su extensión y orientación hacia la cordillera le otorgan un carácter jerárquico que articula todo el desarrollo del conjunto. The design proposes the transformation of the existing situation into a campus by means of three operations: Void: which organizes the existing historical buildings and the new classroom building, and becomes the Training Courtyard. Its extension and orientation towards the mountain range give it a hierarchical character that articulates the whole development of the compound.
