PRESENTACIÓN PRESENTATION
En la primera edición del año, la número 37, iniciamos un nuevo ciclo de tres publicaciones referidas a la arquitectura de la modernidad en un país de Latinoamérica, esta vez con Colombia como protagonista, tras Brasil (2016) y Argentina (2017). El artículo liderado por Hugo Mondragón, académico y arquitecto colombiano radicado en Chile, explica por qué la arquitectura moderna comenzó a desarrollarse tardíamente en el país y se focaliza en el análisis de un conjunto de ocho obras excepcionales. Para la sección Entrevista Internacional tuvimos una conversación larga y profunda con el español Alberto Veiga, quien junto a Fabrizio Barozi fundo el estudio Barozzi-Veiga Arquitectos en el año 2004. Sus obras se desarrollan en varios países de Europa principalmente ganando concursos y especialmente con proyectos de edificios culturales. Su carta de presentación es la Filarmónica de Szczecin en Polonia, obra que ganó el premio Mies Van Der Rohe 2015 y los catapultó internacionalmente. En la sección Muestras se publican las obras de nuestros socios en un trabajo curatorial que el Comité Editorial realiza con gran rigor. En la sección Arquitectura Joven presentamos la obra de Aguiló + Pedraza, con proyectos de gran calidad y que les han valido publicaciones y participación en bienales y exposiciones internacionales. En la sección dedicada a Tesis, compartimos el trabajo de la arquitecta Josefina Domínguez para optar a su título y al grado de Magíster en Arquitectura Sustentable en la PUC: Modulo 1020. De manera especial incluimos en este número un análisis positivamente crítico y muy profundo de la última Bienal de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, realizada en el Parque Cultural de Valparaíso. Escrito por Emilio de la Cerda, ex director de la Escuela de Arquitectura de la PUC y actual subsecretario del nuevo Ministerio de las Artes, las Culturas y el Patrimonio, entrega una evaluación bajo los objetivos autoimpuestos y los fundamentos que sustentaron la bienal, en un artículo de gran calidad que constituye un interesante aporte a la revista. En Concursos presentamos tres: La Academia de Guerra del Ejercito de Chile, el Concurso Privado Puerta Las Condes y El Edificio Municipal de Providencia, cuya organización fue encargada por la alcaldesa Evelyn Matthei a la AOA y al Colegio de Arquitectos. Finalmente, quisiera destacar la labor de mis predecesores David Rodríguez, Raimundo Lira y Carlos Alberto Urzúa, quien dirigió la revista hasta la edición pasada, responsabilidad que espero cumplir de la mejor forma. Cada uno de ellos, junto a al Comité Editorial, han dado forma y contundencia a una de las mejores publicaciones de arquitectura nacional y sudamericana. Cabe destacar que Docomomo, en el encuentro internacional Patrimonio Moderno y Buenas Prácticas realizado en la Escuela de Arquitectura de la PUC en marzo, entregó un reconocimiento especial a Revista AOA por su contribución a la difusión del patrimonio de la arquitectura moderna chilena y latinoamericana durante sus 12 años y a lo largo de los 37 números publicados hasta hoy. In the first edition of the year, issue number 37, we begin a new cycle of three publications dedicated to the architecture of Modernism in Latin America, this time with Colombia as the featured country, after Brazil (2016) and Argentina (2017). The article led by Hugo Mondragón, a Colombian professor and architect based in Chile, explains why modern architecture began to develop late in the country and focuses on the analysis of a group of eight exceptional works. In the International Interview section, we present a long and deep conversation with the Spaniard Alberto Veiga, who together with Fabrizio Barozzi founded the Barozzi-Veiga Arquitectos studio in 2004. Their works are developed in several European countries mainly winning competitions and especially with projects for cultural buildings. Their letter of introduction is the Szczecin Philharmonic in Poland, a work that obtained the Mies Van Der Rohe 2015 award, giving the office international renown. In the Works section, the works of our associates are published in a curatorial work that the Editorial Committee carries out with great rigor. In the Young Architecture section, we present the work of Aguiló + Pedraza, with projects of great quality that have earned them publications and participation in biennials and international exhibitions. In the section dedicated to theses, we share the work of architect Josefina Domínguez to apply for her bachelor and master’s degree in Sustainable architecture at Universidad Católica: Module 1020. We include in this issue as a special feature a positively critical and very profound analysis of the last biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, held in the Cultural Park of Valparaiso. Written by Emilio de la Cerda, former director of the School of Architecture at Universidad Catolica and current undersecretary of the new Ministry of Arts, Cultures and Heritage, it presents an evaluation following the self-imposed objectives and the conceptual foundations supporting the biennial, in a high-quality article that constitutes an interesting contribution to the magazine. In Competitions we present three works: the Academy of War of the Chilean Army, the private competition for Puerta Las Condes and the Municipal Building of Providencia, whose organization was commissioned by mayor Evelyn Matthei to the AOA and the Association of Architects. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the work of my predecessors David Rodríguez, Raimundo Lira and Carlos Alberto Urzúa, who directed the magazine until the past edition, responsibility that I hope to fulfill in the best way. Each of them, together with the Editorial Committee, have given shape and consistency to one of the best publications of national and South American architecture. It should be noted that Docomomo, at the international meeting for Modern Heritage and Good Practices held at the School of Architecture of Universidad Catolica in March, gave special recognition to AOA Magazine for its contribution to the promotion of Chilean and Latin American Modern Architectural heritage during its 12 years and throughout the 37 numbers published until today.
