- It was one of your first projects with an intervention on a collective public space. The last one is Foro Boca, where the location of the building somehow forced you to deal with the surrounding areas. After the experience of the Cineteca I swore never to work with governments again, it was a real disaster, construction was not finished, nor payments, etc., although today I am proud of having done a public work for our country. But when the mayor of Boca del Rio (Miguel Angel Yunes) spoke to me to do Foro Boca and told me the story behind it, I knew that I wanted to work with him. An incredible character, that probed among the people what made them feel proud of their place. The answer was 'nothing'. That is why he decided to make a philharmonic orchestra, which soon became successful. When he called me, I was lucky that he took us around several places; one in a rich neighborhood where there was very good site; another one very deteriorated, that was apparently good for nothing, with a lot of wind and where the sand reached the street. I thought it was the perfect place, he liked my reasoning and we decided to do it right there. He and us, we ran the risk, because the project took two of his mayoral periods. If he hadn't been re-elected, it would have been left half-done and abandoned. The first thing was to clean and illuminate the area, a dump, and we decided to make a plaza and a public space that was as important as the interior of the Foro building. There was a very nice story: from the beginning I asked him to acknowledge in some way the contribution of the workers, to make them feel part of the process, but the mayor never paid much attention to me. One day he summoned us for site supervision, and when we arrived, he asked everyone to meet in the main hall. Of course, we thought that either he would give a political speech or push us to finish soon. Then, a trumpeter appeared, then a violin and the whole orchestra with work helmets and vests, to play for the workers the first concert of classical music of the place. The four remaining months of work were wonderful, with everyone working at full speed.
