CONCURSO COMPETITION EXPERIENCIA DETONANTE III 2019: RWANDA CHAPEL DETONATING EXPERIENCE III 2019: RWANDA CHAPEL Se trata de la última etapa de esta experiencia formativa de la Escuela de Arquitectura de la UDD, en que alumnos de 5° año –junto a oficinas de la AOA– elaboran propuestas con miras a participar en un concurso internacional. En su cuarta versión, el llamado fue a diseñar una capilla para una pequeña comunidad africana. Junto a alumnos de las sedes de Santiago y Concepción, participaron siete oficinas socias. This is the last stage of this formative experience at the School of Architecture at Universidad del Desarrollo, in which fifth-year students –together with AOA studios– develop proposals to participate in an international competition. In its fourth version, the call was to design a chapel for a small African community. Seven partner offices participated with students from the campuses in Santiago and Concepción. El plan de estudios de la universidad contempla el desarrollo de tres actividades formativas que, en distintas etapas de la carrera, buscan vincular los conocimientos adquiridos con escenarios reales que propicien una reflexión crítica sobre la profesión. Son las llamadas Experiencias Detonantes (ED), que culminan en 5° año con EDIII, la cual construye el enlace profesional antes del egreso ("Contacto con la profesión"). Considera que los estudiantes participen en un concurso internacional de arquitectura junto a oficinas de la AOA, cuyos profesionales trabajan durante una semana con un grupo de alumnos desarrollando las propuestas que se enviarán a la competencia. Este año, el proyecto internacional a realizar fue Rwanda Chapel, concurso de ideas para diseñar una capilla para la pequeña comunidad religiosa de Rukomo, Ruanda. Las propuestas fueron evaluadas por los arquitectos Pablo Allard (decano de la Facultad de Arquitectura y Arte UDD), Cazú Zegers y Felipe Soffia, quienes destacaron como ganadora la del equipo conformado por los alumnos Sofía Molina, Catalina Ferrer y Roberto Alcalde junto a la oficina Boza Wilson. Las otras oficinas AOA participantes fueron ABWB, Elton Léniz, Gonzalo Mardones Arquitecto, Lira & Tuckermann, Nodo y Sáez Joannon. The curriculum of the university considers the development of three formative activities that, in different stages of the program, seek to relate the acquired knowledge with real scenarios that propitiate a critical reflection on the profession. These are called Detonating Experiences (ED), which conclude in the 5 th year with ED III, which shapes the professional link before graduation ("Contact with the profession"). It involves the participation of the students in an international architectural competition alongside offices of the AOA, whose professionals work during one week with a group of students developing the proposals that will be submitted to the competition. This year, the international project to be carried out was Rwanda Chapel, a conceptual competition to design a chapel for the small religious community of Rukomo, Rwanda. The proposals were assessed by architects Pablo Allard (Dean of the Universidad del Desarrollo School of Architecture and Art), Cazú Zegers and Felipe Soffia, who decided the team formed by the students Sofía Molina, Catalina Ferrer and Roberto Alcalde and the Boza Wilson studio as the winner. The other participating AOA offices were ABWB, Elton Léniz, Gonzalo Mardones Arquitecto, Lira & Tuckermann, Nodo and Sáez Joannon.

Alumnos Students: María Catalina Ferrer, Roberto Alcalde, Sofía Molina + BOZA WILSON ARQUITECTOS La capilla es la unión de lo divino y lo terrenal, con uno mismo y con la comunidad. Mediante tres círculos, representando a la Santísima Trinidad, se generan tres momentos: el encuentro con la comunidad, la introspección y, finalmente, la llegada a la capilla. El peregrino accede por un atrio que se bifurca: un camino es el memorial, espacio de oración individual y evocación; el otro es de peregrinación, que se estrecha y desciende, íntimo y solemne. La capilla se recorre en solitario, solo guiados por los muros, su textura y la curva. El último momento es la capilla, con un haz de luz hacia el altar. Sobre la cúpula se acumula el agua de la lluvia, creando un espejo sobre la capilla. El agua desciende, conectando lo terrenal con lo divino y donde se puede saciar la sed del viaje. The chapel is the union of the divine and the earthly, with oneself and with the community. Three moments are created in three circles representing the Holy Trinity: the encounter with the community, introspection and, finally, the arrival at the chapel. The pilgrim enters through an atrium that divides into two paths: one is the memorial, a space for individual prayer and remembrance; the other is a pilgrimage, which narrows and descends, intimate and solemn. The chapel is experienced by oneself, only guided by the walls, their texture and curve. The last moment is the chapel, with a beam of light on the altar. Rainwater accumulates over the dome creating a mirror over the chapel. The water descends, connecting the earthly with the divine and where the thirst of the journey can be quenched.
