El arquitecto, socio de ABWB (Alemparte Barreda Wedeles Besançon), presidente de la AOA entre 2012 y 2014 y director de la asociación en varios periodos, recibió este reconocimiento tanto por su intenso trabajo profesional y académico como por su nutrida trayectoria gremial. A pesar de sus responsabilidades y obligaciones como socio de una de las oficinas de arquitectura con encargos de mayor envergadura del país, Yves Besançon siempre ha entregado parte de su tiempo a la docencia y especialmente a la vida gremial. La mejor prueba es que en la actualidad preside la Fundación IDDEA (Instituto de Difusión y Extensión de la Arquitectura), es parte del comité editorial y director de la Revista AOA, integra el comité asesor del área de arquitectura del Ministerio de las Culturas y de las Artes y el Patrimonio y también el consejo directivo del programa Construye 2025 de CORFO, entre otros. Repasar su trayectoria implica remontarse a 1974, cuando a los 22 años, recién salido de la universidad, llegó como dibujante a la oficina de los arquitectos Sergio Alemparte y Ernesto Barreda, la que solo abandonó para titularse y volver de inmediato. Desde entonces ha trabajado activamente en el desarrollo de proyectos como los hoteles Hyatt, Sheraton, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental y Ritz Carlton en Santiago y Sheraton Miramar en Viña del Mar; las Clínicas de Los Andes, Santa María y Dávila en Santiago y San Felipe en Lima, entre otros. En paralelo, el arquitecto de la Universidad de Chile fue director y decano de la Facultad de Bellas Artes, Arquitectura y Diseño de la Universidad UNIACC (2002 a 2011) e invitado como profesor de título y de taller de licenciatura en la FADEU de la Universidad de Chile, labor que sigue desempeñando. Sobre estas cuatro décadas de ejercicio profesional, el arquitecto comenta: "Cuando me preguntan si estoy feliz con las obras que hemos hecho, siempre digo que sí, pero reconozco que en algunas me habría gustado tener más tiempo para pensar con más detenimiento. Hay cosas que habría hecho de manera diferente. En las oficinas grandes falta, a veces, el tiempo para la reflexión, esa parte arquitectónica, que es la parte conceptual, que por la premura y la inmediatez del mundo en que vivimos y por los encargos de los mandantes –que son ultra exigentes en plazos–, no dan".
The architect, member of ABWB (Alemparte Barreda Wedeles Besançon), president of the AOA between 2012 and 2014 and director of the association in several periods, received this recognition for his exhaustive professional and academic work as well as for his extensive union activities. Despite his responsibilities and obligations as a partner in one of the architecture offices with the largest commissions of the country, Yves Besançon has always devoted his time to teaching and especially to union activities. The best proof of this is that he currently chairs the IDDEA foundation (Instituto de Difusión y Extensión de la Arquitectura), is part of the editorial committee and director of AOA Magazine, is member of the advisory committee of the architecture division of the Ministry of Cultures and of the Arts and Heritage and is also part of the board of directors of the CORFO Construye 2025 program, among others. To review his career, we must go back to 1974, when at 22 and fresh out of college he joined the office of architects Sergio Alemparte and Ernesto Barreda as a draftsman, from where he only left to obtain his degree and to return immediately. Since then he has actively worked in the development of projects such as the Hyatt, Sheraton, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental and Ritz Carlton hotels in Santiago and Sheraton Miramar in Viña del Mar; the Los Andes, Santa María and Dávila clinics in Santiago and San Felipe Clinic in Lima, among others. In parallel, the architect of the University of Chile was director and dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design of Universidad UNIACC (2002 to 2011) and served as guest professor of degree projects and undergraduate workshop in the FADEU of the Universidad de Chile, position that he continues to hold until this day. On these four decades of professional practice, the architect comments: "When they ask me if I am happy with the works we have done, I always say yes, but I admit that in some I would have liked to have had more time to think more carefully. There are things that I would have done differently. In large offices, there is sometimes a lack of time for reflection on the architectural vision, the conceptual part, missing because of the urgency and immediacy of the world in which we live in and the extremely time- restricted client commissions".
