Este trabajo pretende definir una posición crítica respecto del futuro de las periferias urbanas a partir de un proceso reflexivo que buscó identificar potenciales sinergias entre las infraestructuras urbanas y los diversos ecosistemas, tomando como línea de investigación el sonido como variable que condiciona el comportamiento de los seres vivos en los entornos naturales y/o construidos. This work aims to define a critical position regarding the future of urban peripheries, starting from a reflective process that sought to identify potential synergies between urban infrastructures and diverse ecosystems, and taking sound as a line of research, as a parameter that conditions the behavior of live beings in natural and/or built environments.

A nivel global experimentamos el crecimiento exponencial de nuestras ciudades. Hace más de 10 mil años que los humanos nos establecimos en comunidades, las que con el tiempo se han ido desarrollando y complejizando. Pasaron de ser puntos de intercambio de productos básicos –definidos por ciertos patrones identitarios– a convertirse en complejas estructuras de intercambio multisectorial y con una inédita pluralidad cultural. En este proceso, algunas ciudades han tomado más protagonismo que sus propios países. Si bien los procesos de crecimiento urbano planificado traen consigo considerables beneficios en términos de acceso a mejores oportunidades laborales y mejor calidad de vida, el fenómeno de transformación de suelo rural a urbano conlleva una serie de impactos negativos sobre diversos actores, tanto del medio urbano como del entorno natural.
We experience globally the exponential growth of our cities. For more than ten thousand years humans have established themselves in communities, which over time have developed and become more and more complex. They went from being points of exchange of basic products –defined by certain identity patterns– to become complex structures of multisectoral exchange and with an unprecedented cultural plurality. In this process, some cities have gained more prominence than their own host countries. Although the planned urban growth processes bring considerable benefits in terms of access to better work opportunities and better quality of life, the phenomenon of transformation of rural into urban land entails a series of negative impacts on various actors, from both the urban and natural environments.
