hat can I say to introduce the v v subject of Christ and salva tion? Everything I want to say seems so abrupt.” This question was raised by Frank, a sincere Christian who wanted to speak to others about Christ. That is a vital question. It would depend somewhat on the situation— where you are and how much time you have. W ill there be interruptions? What kind of a person have you con tacted? Have you been discussing oth er topics with him? His age might also determine the way in which you should speak. There is no sure, ready formula for every situation. It is you who must size it up; be alert and ready. One thing you can do immediately is to pray silently that the Holy Spir it will open a way. A number of things might open doors for a witness. Discussion of the current news might give an oppor tunity. If the person to whom you are speaking speaks of a problem he is having, this would give a chance to tell him how God solved your problem. This also would be the first step to introducing him to some of the great realities of the Christian life. Mary rode the same bus to work each morning. Sometimes in the rush of getting ready she didn’t have time for her Bible study. She decided to carry her Bible and read it on the bus. Of course, this seemed odd to unsaved passengers. One morning her seat-mate, another young wom an, asked casually, “ Is that interest ing?” The door was wide open. Mary responded with a testimony of her own appreciation of God’s Word. Her companion became deeply interested, and in a thirty-minute bus ride she responded to the invitation to bow her head and accept Christ as her Saviour. This took dedicated, God-led counseling, but it worked. God can use any circumstances or any situa tion. He does when we are prepared. But it is not enough merely to say a few words. Work for a decision. Don’t crowd or hurry, but do every thing you possibly can to persuade the person to be definite. It is up to you to be ready. God always is. He will direct and open doors for you. Use any and every opportunity. This is God’s command to you. JANUARY, 1963
