News In General, June 2017

A WORD FROM OUR CEO Dr. Kenneth Cochran, DSc, RN, MBA, FACHE President & CEO I hope all of you had a nice Memorial Day weekend remembering those who have served this great country. It is hard to believe that summer has arrived. Congratulations to all of you who received service awards at the Annual Employee Banquet. It was so refreshing to see so many tenured, dedicated employees being recognized. I would like to thank those of you who attended our 60th birthday celebration where we recognized our first patient, Mrs. Nettie Bruno and celebrated the birth of her son, our first baby, Andre’ Richards, born on May 29, 1957. If you were not able to attend, you missed a wonderful event. To give you a perspective of the many changes in the past 60 years, here are a few interesting facts to share: When we opened our doors in May of 1957, OGH was a two story hospital licensed for just 20 beds, offering semi-private and private rooms. The third floor was used for storage. We were staffed with just 20 nurses and a total of 50 employees. The medical staff at that time consisted of approximately 20 physicians.

We have truly grown and expanded over the years where now we have over 1,000 employees across two campuses and are licensed for 225 beds. Our medical staff is now made up of over 200 physicians. While we can boast on many important milestones throughout the years, the most important have been the lives that have been impacted from our dedication and service to our patients. I would be remissed if I didn’t mention the Cerner EMR transition. We can definitely say we have learned a lot during this transition, including some processes that have had to be adjusted. It hasn't been the smoothest of transitions but it isn't for lack of our staff trying their hardest. Everyone is working toward the same goal and I'd remind you to be patient as we continue to identify issues and resolve them as they are reported. We are only one month into this MAJOR accomplishment and slowly things will improve and become your new normal. I look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming Employee Forums that will begin on June 21st!

A WORD FROM OUR COO Bob Hardy

In May, we celebrated our 60th birthday my age by the way, and I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this organization over the past 25 years! I was equally proud to share the stage with all of the employees who received service awards at our annual banquet. We often hear that it is the PEOPLE that make this health system great and I couldn’t agree more! Longevity and loyalty go hand in hand, and witnessing the numerous awards of the tenured employees that we celebrate each year confirms the fact that it is our employees who make OGHS remarkable. It warms my heart to see so many happy, engaged employees who are proud to call OGHS home. This is a very exciting time for OGHS as we continue to move services to South Campus (Radiation and Medical Oncology), return services to the main campus (LTAC), and advance our strategic plan to better provide services to all. Thanks to each of you for all that you do to make OGHS successful as we continue to strive for excellence.
