WNHGO: Women’s Nine Hole Golf Organization
WNHGO welcomes new members throughout the year. Any female ANCC member, spouse, or dependent is eligible to join provided you have a USGA registered handicap and are familiar with the USGA Rules of Golf. If you don’t have your handicap yet, there is plenty of time to get it before the season starts. Contact our Membership Chair, Shannon Bibb at spbibb1@gmail.com or (618) 979-3696 with any questions. WNHGO Winter Golf is in full swing with 28 participants. Sign-up sheets are posted in the ARL and FFX Ladies’ Locker Rooms, and there’s still a lot of winter left, so feel free to sign up. A total of 10 rounds of golf must be played only at the ANCC courses and with at least one other golfer, who does not have to be a WNHGO member. Players are to post their scores on the grid sheets on the locker room bulletin boards. The season started 1 November and ends 31 March. For further information, email Chairman Mary Fields at fields.mary@verizon.net.
For the past eight years, the Women’s 18-Hole Golf Organization (WGO-18) have sponsored children through the “Homeless Children’s Holiday Playtime Program,” a program founded 20 years ago by two women who worked on Capitol Hill. This program now supports over 300 homeless children. In December, WGO-18 women raised $3,000 which sponsored 60 children! The generosity and kindness of WGO-18 contributed to these children and their parents being able to have a joyous holiday season. Thank you to Pam Quinn and all the ladies who made this possible! WGO-18 ladies are continuing their tradition of playing through the winter in self-organized groups, which includes a friendly cumulative ringers-type competition based on their aggregate ten best 9-hole scores over the winter. The winner will be announced at the WGO-18 Spring Luncheon heralding the beginning of the 2025 season. The new season typically begins in early April, and if there are any golf-loving ladies who would like to join, please contact Membership Chair Ruth Daly over the winter to be ready to play in the new season! Play Days are generally Tuesdays in Arlington and Fridays in Fairfax. WGO-18: Women’s 18 Hole Golf Organization
WDCGA: Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association
The WDCGA is always in a planning or playing mode. As we start the new year, officers are finalizing the 2025 tournament schedule with 23 tournaments planned. The Ice Breaker, historically played at Argyle CC is the only tournament played on a Saturday. It is usually a 2 person team event and sells out quickly. The event will be held on April 26th with registration opening on the “District” website about 4 weeks prior. Cup tournaments held June, July, and August allow players to compete with members of similar handicaps. The June location is TBD, Brettton Woods will host in July and Woodmore will host in August. Team match play is the true “season opener” with players knocking off the winter chill on April 16th. ANCC has two divisions this year. Division I starts April 16 with ANCC competing against Montgomery CC at Norbeck CC. Division IV starts the next day at Montgomery CC against Congressional CC. Team players have previously been selected; however, any WDCGA ANCC member can play as a substitute if needed. If you are interested in joining WDCGA, please review eligibility requirements at WDCGA.org and contact Margaret Ann Connors, the ANCC representative to WDCGA at maconnors09@yahoo.com.
