in 1999, Svager, established the Thyrsa Frazier Svager Scholarship Fund through the Afri- can-American Community Fund of The Dayton Foundation. To date, the fund has awarded scholar- ships totaling $67,000 to assist African-American women in completing their degrees in mathematics at an accredited college or university. In addition to making current gifts to the fund, Mr. Svager has made plans for a significant legacy gift after his lifetime. The scholarship is for African-American women majoring in Mathematics and attending Central State University, Wilberforce University, Wright State University, the University of Dayton, Howard University or Spelman College. In addition to his wife, Brother Aleksandar Svanger is predeceased by his parents and survived by relatives in San Paolo, Brazi; former colleagues and students. ♦ “We are deeply saddened to share the passing of a cherished member of our university family, Professor Emeritus Aleksander Svager.” - Central State University
staff. In 1964, he became professor of physics and chairperson of CSU’s first computer science depart- ment. At CSU, he met Thyrsa Frazier, chairper- son of the Mathematics Department, one of the first African-American women in the U.S. to obtain a Ph.D. in mathematics. The couple worked together to encourage African Amer- ican students to major in computer science. On com- mencement day in 1968, Aleksandar Svager married Thyrsa Frazier. During his years at CSU, Svager continuously encouraged students to set high standards and was proud of his work in developing African Amer- ican physicists, many to the doctorate level. He has established a scholarship for female students in mathe- matics through the Dayton Foundation. His volun- teer service to the Xenia Community Schools is truly valued and appreciated. Major Thomas “Tommy” L. Walker, Sr., U.S. Army (Ret.), who entered the Chapter Invisible at his home on Thursday, May 9, 2024. He was born in Gary, IN, May 11, 1957, and was the youngest son of Lieutenant Colonel William “Bill” W. Walker, III, U.S. Army, (Ret.) and Willa Ann “Billye” (née Robinson) Walker. Walker was part of a military family who moved frequently throughout their father’s military service that included Ulm, Germany; Fort Riley, KS; Fort Benning (now Fort Moore), GA.; Honolulu, HI; Chicago, IL; Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty), NC; and Alexandria, VA. After graduating from Fort Hunt High School in Alexandria, VA, in 1975, Walker attended Hampton
Walker was initiated into the Fraternity in 1978 via the Hampton University Chapter, the Beta Chi of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. at Hampton Univer- sity. He graduated with a B.S. in finance and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Finance Corps through ROTC. He later earned an MBA from Florida Institute of Technology. Walker’s military service included military school- ing and duty stations at Fort Harrison, IN; Brus- sels, Belgium; Heidelberg, Germany; Warren, MI; Fort Riley, KS; and assign- ments in the United States Army Military District of Washington.
