ONE THING THOU LACKEST Exposition of Matthew 19:16-26; Mark 10:17-30; Luke 10:25-30. I. WHAT THE RICH YOUNG RULER HAD 1. Fine temperament. a. Courage. b. Humility: kneeling. 2. Clean record: “ All these have I kept.” 3. True aspirations: “ that I may have eternal life.” II. WHAT THE RICH YOUNG RULER LACKED 1. His Master. He lacked control by Christ. 2. Following Christ. 3. Giving up his wealth for Christ. 4. Ministering to the poor. III. WHAT WE NEED 1. Give up what hinders you. 2. Give yourself to Christ. What do you want? Your Master. What does Christ want? You. He can be counted on at all times o f joy or ad versity. God’s faithfulness in bring ing deliverance to His beloved can be counted on: I. No M a t t e r What the Circum stances. 1. In joy. 2. In the deepest distress. II. No Matter How Unworthy We Are. 1. His only begotten Son alone was worthy of deliverance. 2. We are totally unworthy, ex cept for our position in Him. III. No M a t t e r How Many Others Have Forsaken Us. 1. Though foes be against us. 2. Though friends have departed us. 3. Though even p a r e n t s have failed us. In fact, this final “ extremity” is pre cisely “ God’s opportunity.” THE EXTENT OF GOD'S FAITHFULNESS Psalm 27:10
