LAND OF OZ INVESTING IN THE HOW OPPORTUNITY ZONES CAN PROVIDE PRIME REAL ESTATE INVESTING OPPORTUNITIES

New Opportunity Zones created by the tax reform legislation passed in December 2017 provide potential prime, tax- incentivized real estate investing opportunities, particularly in OZs that are outperforming the surrounding market. An ATTOM Data Solutions analysis of more than 7.4 million homes in more than 3,000 OZs nationwide found that most are outperforming the surrounding market even while still offering a chance to purchase at a discount — all on top of the tax incentives.

METHODOLOGY

Using public record tax assessor and county recorder data, ATTOM Data Solutions analyzed average home prices, price appreciation and property taxes in Census Tracts identified as Opportunity Zones by the U.S. Department of Treasury and compared those to the same housing metrics in Census Tracts not identified as Opportunity Zones.
