Neenah Paper To Close WI Plant, 100 Impacted
The Neenah Paper plant in Appleton, Wisconsin will close this fall, according to its Georgia based parent company, the closure will affect about 100 jobs. The Appleton plant was updated as recently as 2017, when a 44,000-square-foot expansion created 20 jobs. But the facility, which focuses primarily on transportation filtration media, including products used in air, oil and fuel filtration, hasn’t created the value the company expected, said corporate Communications Director Missy Elam. “We have found that the facility is no longer a compet- itive asset,” she said. “It doesn’t really align with our long- term business goals and there weren’t really any other profitable alternatives that we had, so we made this really difficult decision.” The company expects to close the plant by the end of September but is considering factors that could change that date, according to Elam. “We’re looking at custom- er order requests, we’re looking at supply chain and raw material needs, and of course we’re looking at labor and making sure all of those sync up in a way that allow us to remain open for that whole time,” she said. Employees will be notified at least 60 days in advance when an exact closing date is determined and are entitled to receive their normal pay.
