His "grandmothèr had receiv ed the true faith, arid so had his mother (2 Tim. 1:5); and from these two godly women Timothy had re ceived the Word. “ From a child” Timothy had hëard that Word honored arid obeyed. The provision: for Israel’s living ac cording to God’s standard was to be found in God’s Word. That Word Was to regulate their family life, being, taught in the home; their industrial life,:vbeing, bound upon their hands; their intellectual life, being between their eyes; their domestic life, being upon their doors, and their social life, being seen upon their gates. II. ■B y R emembrance of G od ’ s G race (Deut, 6:20-25) *The Lord^s people were to instruct all their . children concerning the meaning o f the testimonies, statutes, and judgments-involved in their re ligious life (vs. 20-23). The Lord knew that when, under the blessing of God, 'they had been made rich, there would be danger of their- for getting that all they had and were had come to them by God’s grace. They were to tell their children that the Lord'had shown His grace toward them by bringing them, who were at one time bondmen, into the land He had promised to their fathers (v. 23). That land is 'Still the l a n d of Israel, and one day the nation of Israel w ill be brought info it, never iribre to leave it or be cast otit from it (c f.: Amos 9:15). They werp also to instruct their children that all the statutes of the Lord were “for our good always, that he might preserve us alive” (vs. 24, 25), In the measure in which the people obeyed God’s commands would righteousness be imputed unto them in God’s sight. Thus in the observance of thesé statutes they would nurture true religion in their families and be a name and praise [ unto their God among the nations.

DEVOTIONAL READ ING : Prov. 4:1-0. ' Outline and Exposition I. B y R ecognition of G od ' s . S upremacy (Deut. 6:4-9) - HE DISTINCTIVENESS of Israel as a nation consisted in the JL fact that their God was unlike any other God.1Israel could say* “Our God is one Lord.” The unity of God, and the plurality of Persons in the one Godhead, is revealed in a plural wOrd used in the singular number (v, 4). The supremacy of God is indicated by c e r t a i n requirements involving control of the motives of life, the desires of life,. and the actions of life. Or, in other words, heart, soul, and body are involved (v. 5).
