life and preserved 'him to be the gréât savior and lawgiver of his people. It is not'always easy for the parents to resist the immediate demands of a mere emotional love which disregards the future, but it is always worth while in the end., 2. "Put away the gods Which* your fathers served on the other side of thé flood, and il» Egypt" (Josh. 24:14). The phrase “the other side of the flood” is undoubtedly, a wrong trans lation. The American Revision renders Jt “ beyond the River,” a reference to thè well-known fact that Abraham’s people had- served false gods iri their former home in Chaldea beyond the River Euphrates. And the people had again gone back to faise gods while in the land of Egypt. Now the teaching of this passage, if taken in relation to family life, is simply the ;supreme importance of worshipping the true God. It is not enough for a home to. be religious or believe in a god of' some kind. There is; but one true God, and that God has revealed Himself finally in the Incarnate Christ. The worship of any god apart from Christ is the worship :of a false god. The true Christian can mever join in the modern and popular cry, “Go to Church Somewhere.” The Bible tells us to go to church where Christ is worshiped and honored, and nowhere else. Furthermore, no matter how de sirable is the ideal of religious unity in the home, it is not the most im portant thing. If our “ fathers,” or our mothers, worship and serve false gods, we the children are commanded to put away these false gods. : 3. "For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother" (Eph. 5:31). It is not enoughifor a man, to love his wife. He must leave his father and mother. And. the same principle applies to the wife. She should leave her father and mother when she mar ries. To séver the former parental ties at marriage is sometimes not easy. But the home is an institution that Gòd has ordained shall be ruled hy husband and wife* not by the in-laws; and the sooner this principle is real-, ized the 'better off the new home will be. To leave “father and mother” for the new home is not to dishonor büt , to honor .them. For, if the parents have done their duty,, their sons and daughters w ill be capable of establish ing new homes, and thus exhibit the effects of the wise training and coun sel received'from their parents.

little boy? If you had a baby -brother in your own’ home, p r o b a b l y y o u would be sad and- worried. M i r i a m loved her. brother Moses, but she was not sad or afraid-. Would you like to - know why? >

LÉSSON STORY: Miriam knew the command about the babites meant that some one was very, very angry. That “ some one” was wicked Pharaoh, the ruleij in Egypt many hundreds, of years before the Lord Jesus lived on earth,' Pharaoh was jealous of the Lord’s people who were in that land. He said the girls might live, but he. ordered all the boy babies, whp might '* grow up to be soldiers and fight against his evil ways; to be put to death. Miriam knew something else, too: that her parents loved and trusted the heavenly Father, and that He was able to do something'wonderful for His people. The little sister watched as her father and mother made a water proof basket for baby Moses and hid him among the reeds in the river. She' watched as the princess uamé to the river side, and she .heard her tell her maidens to get .the basket, and see what was in it. Just, then the baby cried. Miriam knew the princess loved him and would not allow him to be killed. God put a happy thought into her mind, and she ran to the princess and told- her she knew some one who could help her care for the baby. Whom should it be but- the. baby’s own mother! As she ran home to tell the good news, Miriam probably was thinking: You don’t have to be afraid of any thing, ever, when you trust the heav enly Father; He always .has s o m e' lovely plan, for those who. love Him. •
