Residents and Beachwood Community Services Patrons, As we welcome the warmer months, I am excited to share some fantastic recreational opportunities and community programs available this spring and summer. Beachwood continues to grow as a vibrant, active, and engaged community, and I encourage all residents to take advantage of the diverse offerings in this season’s recreation guide. For our pickleball enthusiasts, Bill Tennant is adding an advanced 401-level pickleball class, allowing seasoned players to refine their skills further. The popular Paddle Up pickleball leagues will also be returning. We are also exploring adding a Teen Night on select Fridays. In response to concerns over pickleball court availability, our Community Services Department implemented YourCourts, an online reservation system and app exclusively for Beachwood residents. This user-friendly system has significantly improved access to our courts. The success of this initiative has even drawn attention from neighboring communities facing similar challenges. Last summer, in response to community feedback, we launched the Same-Gender Swimming Pilot Program, which received an overwhelmingly positive reception. As a result, we’ve established a regular schedule for same-gender swimming sessions, ensuring this inclusive opportunity remains available to those who wish to participate. We are also excited to announce the installation of new high-dive steps at our community pool, providing another layer of safety for our residents. National Night Out is an annual tradition, and while severe weather prevented us from holding the event last year, Beachwood Police Chief Dan Grispino is eager to help plan this summer’s event. This gathering is an excellent way for residents to connect with our officers in a positive, community-focused environment. In addition to these recreational opportunities, our Community Services Department is expanding its Meet & Eat programming to foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie. Some of the exciting themes include: The Health and Fitness Toolbox, Magic and Music, and a Murder-Mystery Lunch. I look forward to seeing you all around the city, whether on the pickleball courts, at the pool, or one of our many community events. Let’s make this spring and summer one to remember! Sincerely,

Same-Gender Swimming Sessions will be held on Wednesdays (7:30–9 PM) and Sundays (9–10:30 AM), alternating genders between each day. A full schedule will be posted by March 31. Same-gender swimming is included with membership. Daily drop-in rates are $5 for residents, $7 for non- resident youth guests (4-17), $10 for non-resident adult guests, and $6 for non-resident senior guests (60+). Non-resident guest policy applies. Splash Parties Booking begins April 7! Splash parties are available to residents only for $85 which includes 10 admission wristbands and use of the pavilion with 8 picnic tables. Additional wristbands are available for $6 each. Splash parties are offered on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-3 PM or 4-7 PM only. Two forms of identification for residency are required.. Limit two parties per household during the season.

Buying Your Membership HOW TO: Memberships will be on sale at Beachwood City Hall beginning Monday, April 7. Purchases can be made in-person, Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Beachwood residents and employees working within city limits (restrictions apply) are eligible for membership. Please bring two forms of identification for residency. A current driver’s license or photo ID and utility bill are preferred. FAMILY MEMBERSHIP: Unmarried children under the age of 25 and living at home may be included on their parent’s registration. Married children of any age and living in the home of a parent must register separately. GOVERNESS: The Governess membership is only permitted to be used for a non-custodial guardian which may include a nanny, babysitter or grandparent. Governess must be accompanied by the resident child(ren) to gain access to the pool. The Governess membership does not have guest privileges and can only be used by one person at a time. INDIVIDUALS EMPLOYED IN BEACHWOOD: Non-resident individuals employed within the City of Beachwood are eligible to purchase a membership. Proof of employment is necessary, must be a paystub or letter from the employer on company letterhead. This is an individual membership, non-residents employed in Beachwood are not eligible for a family membership. The individual is entitled to bring guests. The membership has restricted hours of Monday-Friday only, no weekend or holiday admission. NON-RESIDENT POLICY: Non-residents are permitted when accompanied by a resident. Proof of residency is required for daily admission. Two forms must have a current address. Non-residents are not eligible for membership. Maximum 6 guests per household.

Beautiful Beginning Chess Instructor: Progress with Chess Beautiful Beginning is a great way to nurture your child’s interest in the game of chess. We offer a supportive small group setting. Students will learn the moves of the pieces, the rules and be able to play a legal game of chess. Instruction provided by Progress with Chess, a local non-profit organization which has introduced chess to thousands of local students.

Fantastic Foundation Chess Instructor: Progress with Chess

Fantastic Foundation includes students who already know the basic rules but have little or no tournament experience. Students will learn tactics, strategies and checkmate patterns, how to record moves and use a chess clock. Rookie Boys Coach Pitch Boys will experience their first pitched ball as coaches pitch. Program is designed to enhance hitting, throwing and fielding, as well as advancing basic concepts of the game. Games will be played Monday and Wednesday evenings in Beachwood and South Euclid. Gives players the opportunity to learn and improve on the fundamentals of baseball including: pitching, hitting, fielding and base running. Fencing - Beginner Instructor: Fred Sims

Teen Night at the Courts Beachwood Community Services

This course will teach the basics of foil fencing. Easy to learn, the sport teaches courage, quick thinking and perseverance. The course is taught by Fred Sims a certified fencing instructor by the United States Fencing Coaches Association. All fencers will be required to wear masks during class. All equipment will be furnished by Mr. Sims. A $25 equipment fee, payable by check will be due the first class. Parents are encouraged to stay and observe the class. Class limit is 10 students.
