Welding Program Training Package

Welding Program Training Package

To successfully implement a Navy Compliant Welding Program, you need to become well-versed in several critical areas. First, understand the specific requirements set by the Navy, including those in NAVSEA Technical Publication S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, and familiarize yourself with relevant military standards like MIL-STD-278 and MIL-STD-1689, as well as AWS standards such as AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.2.

Develop detailed Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and maintain thorough Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) to ensure consistent and high-quality welds. Ensure welders are qualified through Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) and provide ongoing training to keep them proficient in required techniques. Use Non- Destructive Testing (NDT) methods and perform Destructive Testing to validate welding procedures and welder performance. Maintain comprehensive records of your WPS, PQR, WPQ, inspection reports, and test results to ensure traceability and accountability.

Implement a Quality Management System (QMS) that meets Navy requirements and conduct regular audits and reviews. Establish and enforce safety protocols, and provide appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect workers. Verify that welding materials meet required specifications and implement proper storage and handling procedures to prevent contamination and damage. By mastering these areas, you can ensure your welding program meets Navy standards, producing high-quality, safe, and compliant welds.
