Lockdown Musings

“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient.” Quran 2:155 “What’s true of all the evils in the world is true of plague as well. It helps men to rise above themselves.” Albert Camus, The Plague Life surprises us when we least expect it. In a moment everything turns topsy-turvy and you begin to lose contact with reality and dreams. Everything seems hazy. It seems our lives get transferred to some parallel universe where everything is beyond our control and we are helplessly drifting away from our normal routine of life. As I am writing this, I already have wiped my laptop screen and keyboard a couple of times and sanitized my hands so much that my fingers slip while I press the keys. Prevention is all we have right now. I am reminded of the famous adage that those who are afraid live longer. From being something that we all vaguely heard about on the news in the dying months of 2019, COVID-19 has now encroached on the lives of every single one of us. It has entered our lives, impacted our households and And for better or worse it has forced us to reflect on our lives, our systems, our rules, our societies, our values, ourbeliefs, our thoughts, our laws. Everything. They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger – but how to deal with something that kills you and simultaneously weakens you? In every sense, humanity is being weakened – our preconceived and accepted notions are being stripped down to the bone and criticized and seen for what they really mean. What they really effect. From being dismissive, to being panicky and anxious, this invisible being has made us go through so many phases of human emotions. Doing mundane things too is a privilege in these times. Which weapons and bullets are we affected every country. The virus has gone viral.
