IN CHRIST IS LIFE 1

hooking Up I f you spend much time on the desert you soon become aware of a vast amount of beauty you ’ll never see any place else. The scattered flowers and shrubs have a delicate hue all of their own. The shifting sand dunes and rocky upthrusts have ■ as many colors as there are hours in the day. And at night the stars seem to be huge, rough nuggets of gold hanging just out ’V of reach. For sheer, unspoiled beauty the desert is hard to beat. I’m writing this column on the desert. W e ’re on a camp ing trip in Death Valley, Calif. W e ’ve had rain and wind and sun. And it’s all been a thing of beauty. Since Death Valley is the lowest spot in the Western Hemisphere (280 feet below sea level), you find yourself looking up a great deal of the time. On the east the black-topped Funeral Mountains with bases of yellow and red and green tower a mile high. On the west the Panamints jut abruptly to 11,000 feet above the floor of the valley. Th ey ’re covered with snow now. Last night when I was stretched out in m y sleeping bag be fore the dying embers of our camp fire and with the lonesome yap yap of a coyote drifting across the valley, I got to thinking about looking up. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to look up. Haven’t you ever caught yourself seemingly trapped in the little daily details of living? All of us have. W e suddenly realize all of our hopes and ambitions and plans are being smothered by little things. W e have the eyes of our soul cast downward. And when the soul is earth-bound, life loses the full-orbed abundance that God means it to have. Now the fact that we find ourselves in this condition of the downcast soul is nothing out of the ordinary. A ll of us come to this realization sooner or later. W e have but to be completely honest with our own heart to know that when we are not right with God then life has no real meaning. How to be right with God is a basic question that every person has to answer. Our best philosophers have spent the greater part of their lives discussing the question. Millions have decided that '75 Jesus Christ is the answer. If you ’ve tried your own way— however good it is— and still don’t have complete inner peace and the absolute assur ance of being right with God, then why not make the experi ment of trying Jesus Christ? It w on ’t cost you a cent. Just try Him. Look away from yourself— that inner self that is tied down with the small details of everyday living. Look out and up to Him who is the way, the truth, the life and apart from whom can be no salvation for your seeking soul. Christ is the answer. He is the answer for your need, for the need of your heart today. __ L H If you have found in this short article a way of life that you would like, we urg6 you now— this very moment— to yield your will to His will and in doing so find that in Christ is Life. If you have a question, or if we can be of help in any way, please write us. We shall be happy to if send you a copy of the Gospel of John. It is yours free for the asking.
