For Camp alumna and Annual Fund leadership donor Dr. Elizabeth Berkowitz (IAC 94-00), the arts are not merely a hobby or special interest; they are interwoven into her daily life and livelihood. Currently the Executive Director of the American Trust for the British Library, Dr. Berkowitz has devoted her career to the arts—to the history of interdisciplinary arts, in particular—and a quick look at her family tree shows a love for the arts runs in the family. Two of Dr. Berkowitz’s three daughters have attended Camp. Her sister Rachel (IAC 98–02) did, too, and her mother, Dr. Joanna Berkowitz, attended our College for the Creative Arts Symphonic Band Camp (for adults) in 2025. What’s more, Joanna and husband Dr. Bruce Berkowitz, inspired by their daughter’s seven years at Camp, have given to the Annual Fund and Interlochen Public Radio more than two dozen times in the past 30 years. Following in her parents’ philanthropic footsteps, Elizabeth and husband Marc have given repeatedly to the Annual Fund, including several donations made in honor of Bruce and Joanna. Elizabeth and Marc’s leadership gift shows a commitment to keeping the arts at the center of their and their children’s lives. Elizabeth’s daughters, Clara (IAC 24-26), Lily (IAC 26), and Eve (not yet a Camp student but wearing Interlochen red “in solidarity” with her older, Camp-bound siblings, Elizabeth explains), at Camp 2026; Elizabeth with intermediate cabin-mates at Camp 1996 (she is pictured in the back/fourth row, second from left).

“My Interlochen camp experience was transformative, and inspired my enduring commitment to support the arts, across mediums. Today, seeing my children beginning their own Interlochen journeys— writing their own Interlochen stories, week by week, summer by summer—has been a tremendous gift. Giving back to Interlochen is just one small way I can pay it forward and say ‘thank you’ to a place that has been so meaningful in my life, and now in the lives of the next generation of campers.” — Dr. Elizabeth Berkowitz (IAC 94-00)
