center featuring a color photo of a player or slogan. One 24-pin set featured American and National League All-Stars, the other featured members of the San Francisco Giants. The pins were to be produced in Japan, and it appears that tariff issues made importing the finished pins cost-prohibitive. Neither set progressed beyond the prototype stage, and some of the flat, printed “discs” made their way into the hobby via proof sheets that were cut down into square, card-like pieces. The colorful discs were produced on foil paper, likely in late 1966, and the press sheets contained both complete sets. Each of the player discs feature a full-color portrait set against a colorful background, with four of the Giants “slogan” cards featuring various slogans and team logos, along with a “Willie Mays for Mayor” disc reminiscent of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox stickers produced the same year. This is an extremely rare piece, one of only a few complete press sheets known. This one is missing the black ink layer, so the player names (and Giants logo) do not appear on the discs. We are aware of just one full-color sheet, which sold at auction for nearly $30,000 in 2020; the only other full proof sheet we have encountered, which was missing its blue ink layer, sold for $14,000 in that same auction. Although we have found a pair of half- sheets, the complete, 48-disc sheet is clearly exceedingly rare. Individually- cut singles also occasionally appear at auction, some full-color and others from progressive proof sheets such as this; selling prices for individual singles stretch into the thousands for Hall of Famers regardless of color. MINIMUM BID: $5,000
