arrive before the final scenes, and Seem to intimate that we are in the immedi ate neighborhood of this immense move ment of God the Holy Ghost. So, in linking up ourselves with myriads of Christians throughout the globe in pray ing for world-revival, world-evangelism and the world-return of our blessed Lord, we are praying for solid coming facts, and therefore know that we are praying according to the will of God ......... We are praying for the world the biggest blessing it will ever have on this side of the Great White Throne. It is before the dwindling institutions of a dying church, with all watchfulness gone, a church living on a past reputa tion and a burnt-out flame, that our Lord presents Himself as ‘He that hath the seven Spirits of God’ (Rev. 3 :1), the mighty flood-tide of the Godhead’s power, the seven Spirits yet to be ‘sent forth into all the earth’ (Rev. 5 :6 )......... “ Two downpours occur, in Palestine, at either end of the harvest. ‘He giveth you the former rain moderately’...—..for a mightier Pentecost is still to come ......... The ‘former’ or autumnal rain falls in October, and softens the soil for the seed, the ‘latter’ rain falls in April, and swells the ear in the corn. If either shower fails, the harvest is lost. How vital and glorious this last down pour will be is obvious when we recol lect that whole nations (Matt. 25:34) and all Israel (Rom. 11:26) are to be saved. FASTING Prayer needs fasting for its full growth. Prayer is one hand, with which we grasp the invisible; fasting, the other with which we let loose and cast away the visible. It is only in a life of moderation and temperance and self-denial that there will be the heart or the strength to pray much. But there is also a more literal mean ing. Sorrow and anxiety cannot eat; joy celebrates its feasts with eating and drinking. There may come times of in tense desire, when it is strongly felt how the body, with its appetites, lawful though they may be, still hinder the Spirit in its battle with the powers of darkness, and the need is felt of keep ing it under. We are creatures of the senses; our mind is helped by what comes to us unembodied in concrete form; fasting helps to express, to deepen, and to confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, to sacrifice ourselves, to attain what we seek for the Kingdom of God. And He who accepted the fasting and sacrifice of His Son, knows to value and accept and reward with spiritual power the soul that is thus ready to give up all for Christ and His Kingdom.— Andrew Murray. CHRIST’S OPPORTUNITY You may be browbeaten, tormented, excommunicated, driven from your home and friends, lonesome and depressed; but that is Christ’s supreme opportunity. He will find you, and in the absence of every other solace, He will be your Com forter, will pour in the wine and oil of Ijiis sympathy, and give the supreme revelation of His own wonderful nature. We must have the right spirit In approaching the Bible. If we have theories with which we are not willing to part, we. cannot understand the Scriptures.
