It’s back-to-school season! Not only is this a great opportunity for your kids to go to the dentist before school starts, but it’s also a great chance for you to get your cleaning and checkup with them. Here’s why your fall dental visit is so important for you and your child’s health. No. 1: Your child is less likely to miss school. Did you know that dental disease causes children to miss more than 51 million hours of school every year? After a carefree summer of eating candy and drinking soda, many children might be surprised to find that they have cavities, which, later in life, can lead to much more serious diseases, such as periodontitis and heart disease. No. 2: Your child can develop a positive relationship with dentists early on. Many people are fearful about visiting the dentist, and their oral health often suffers because of this — not because they don’t brush their teeth, but because they don’t get professional cleanings or advice when problems arise. By having a good, positive relationship with a dentist early on, your child can be a step ahead of their oral health whenever there’s an issue. No. 3: Your child may receive more encouragement to develop good oral habits. Let’s be real: It’s a lot easier to follow a professional’s health advice if you’re going to see them again specifically to check if you’ve followed the advice or not. Of course, our staff always employs utmost understanding and kindness, 5 Benefits of Your Back-to-School Dental Appointment

even if you or your child has fallen behind on your brushing. But seeing a dentist definitely encourages people — adults and children alike — to stay in the groove with their oral habits. No. 4: Your child may drink more water. In dentistry, it’s our job to educate you on all facets of keeping your teeth healthy, including the dangers of drinking too much soda and how to care for your teeth if you do. Even though these sugary drinks will still always be popular, a little one-on-one with our hygienists or dentists might help your child think twice about drinking more than one soda a day! No. 5: Your child is a little healthier and happier! According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 5 children aged 5–11 years has at least one untreated decayed tooth. Don’t let your child go untreated — get regular checkups and ensure they’re feeling great before the school year begins.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING “I found out I needed dental work in January and had one dental office close down for weeks and not return my calls. Another office closed the day my treatment was scheduled without even a courtesy call, and many others were booked for months. I found out I was relocating, and it was urgent to get my work done in two weeks. I was at my wit’s end, and the last call I said I would make was to Exceptional Smiles, which I found on Google. Janae answered the phone and immediately cared about my emergency. She scheduled me for the following day. Dr. Andrea, Janae, Liz, Erica, Alyssa, and Lauren took amazing care of me. I had three fill-ins, two crowns, a root canal, and other work done, all within a week. My teeth are beautiful, and the care was really exceptional. I am telling everyone I know about Dr. Andrea and the team. Their technology is innovative, and they made my crowns ‘the same day.’ I would never want to get so much dental work done in one week, but since I ammoving, I am so grateful to have called this place. I am now ready for my move and feeling great.” -Thessalonian
