In September MAAG Gala is celebrating its 65 th Anniversary of excellence and dedication to service and innovation. Specifics from a recently held event will be covered in next month's edition of the MAAGAZIN.

Dear MAAG Americas Team:

It is hard to believe that it has already been a year since I boarded a flight from China to the US and found a new home here in Southwest Virginia!

Over the past 12 months we have achieved what nobody thought possible at that time: we grew the business and our profitability at the same time.

We are now able to speak with a stronger voice within MAAG Group. This all was only possible due to your dedication, hard work, and relentless pursuit to make the company better. I understand that some of the changes we are making are hard for some of you and at times might not make sense to everyone. But I promise you that we are becoming a better company because of them! We will continue to drive change! From small steps like modernizing the place we work, to working on improving our corporate culture and collaboration, not only within the Americas, but also across our other MAAG locations.

Over this past year you have shown me what is possible, the potential that is MAAG Americas – and I am very proud to work with you!

Happy Fall Y'all!

Paul Merich

Office Updates in EGR To unite MAAG Americas locations under common brand, we launched “Internal Branding Update” project. The first part of it is to update offices and production facilities with the current brand including brand art, colors, and logos.

Meet our Interns at the Eagle Rock location. Pictured From left to right: Isaiah Wright , D aniel Anderson , Jonathan Anderson , and Kyle Tucker* . These four gentlemen came from the partnerships we are building with multiple schools around the county. We are excited to be a part of their development as the Team Leaders have owned the development of these talented individuals.

We are thrilled to see what our Maag Interns will accomplish in the future. As an example, Kyle Tucker is now a full-time Electrical Designer on Steve Lavinder's team! Congrats, Kyle!

Our Kent Location currently has 2 interns that have been providing help with critical projects: Judah Durbin (left) has been digitizing engineering project folders and Cohen Speaker-Wilcox (right) has been photographing parts for our eCommerce site. We greatly appreciate all of our Intern's hard work and dedication.

Safety Message

Hobbies Welcome to Carlos Perez Ruiz, Continuous Improvement Manager, one of our newest Maag USA employees. Carlos is from Chihuahua, a city in the north-central part of Mexico where he lives with his wife, Raquel, and son Leonardo. In the coming months the whole family plans to move to VA. One significant difference between Eagle Rock and Chihuahua? The humidity! Although typically averages warmer temperatures than VA, Chihuahua is arid like the desert. Carlos says he will have to get used to the humidity! Of course, we talked about hobbies! Carlos has been a fan of Formula One racing since his childhood. He has been fortunate to attend a few races over the years and has passed his love for cars to his (almost) 3-year-old son.

One of Carlos’ first weekend excursions since arriving in Eagle Rock, VA was to attend an International Motor Sports Association race at the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, VA. Since we were discussing cars, I had to ask if Carlos had a dream car. He claims, due to growing up in the 1990s, that he would love a ’99 Dodge Viper GTS. I asked what they like to do as a family and Carlos said that his wife especially loves travel to the beach (Riviera Maya!). They also enjoy spending time exploring forests and different natural areas.

Leo, his son, is fascinated by cars and trains. Like many kids his age, he is a fan of the show Paw Patrol. Carlos is working on a plan for where to go and what to see once his wife and son join him in VA. If anyone has recommendations, you should share them!

Music is also an interest for Carlos. Again, influenced by growing up in the ‘90s he loves bands like Pearl Jam and Guns & Roses. He used to play drums in various bands, in bars and clubs, including one that played country music. Carlos also enjoys jazz music. What do you miss the most from Mexico? Tacos!!! Carlos says nothing compares to the tacos in Mexico and that the best tacos can be found in local markets in Mexico City. I asked if he liked variety with his tacos – like adding interesting ingredients and he admitted that he typically prefers the same go-to taco fillings. “Tacos are not meant to have surprise ingredients!” says Carlos. Again, welcome to Maag, Carlos! We look forward to getting to know you better and sharing new experiences from our culture.

Lemon Bars

2 cups all-purpose flour ½ pound (2 sticks) salted butter melted ½c. Powdered sugar, plus more for garnish ¼ tsp. of salt 2c. Granulated sugar 4 eggs, slightly beaten 5 tbsp. Of Lemon Juice (from about 2 lemons)

1.

Position the baking rack in the middle of the oven and preheat the oven to 350 F. Spray a 9x13 glass baking dish with baking spray or grease with butter. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, melted butter, powdered sugar, and salt. Use a fork to stir gently until just barely combined; mixing as little as possible will result in a flakier crust. Use your fingers to press the mixture into the prepared pan Bake until the edges of the crust are lightly browned, about 20 minutes Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and lemon juice until well blended. When the crust is done, pour the lemon mixture over the hot crust , return to the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Gently tent a piece of foil on top to prevent overbrowning, and bake until the top is lightly browned, and the center is set when the pan is gently nudged., about 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and dust the top with powdered sugar. Let cool completely on a rack in the pan, then cut 15 bars or 30 squares. The bars are much easier to cut once it is completely cool. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. For longer storage wrap in plastic or in zip-top bags and freeze up to 1 month.
